Gale Norton has been a great advocate of protecting private property rights and improving the public's access to public lands. She has been a friend and ally of our movement. The Sacramento River is more than 350 miles long - the longest river in the state - and only 5 percent of it remains undeveloped. If we can get the Sacramento Bend designated a National Recreation Area, it would be permanently locked away in the federal land base and open for the public to enjoy.

Certainly, as with everything else, we're only able to cover a small portion of the border. The state and federal government have bought up most of the land around the border. I suspect that's why we'll never get control of the border.

This is going to sound glib, but they're not making any more land.
