en If you have good lyrics, there is a type of person you want to be at your show. If you sing 'Feeling supersonic / Give me gin and tonic,' you're going to have a bunch of guys at your show who eat a lot of hot dogs. Not that I want to sound pretentious, because half of our fans that come to a show just want to throw themselves around in the crowd, but the other half want to maybe stand there and whisper the lyrics into their boyfriends' ears.

en Sometimes I have an idea and I'll kind of write the idea down and sort of tinker away at it until I come up with lyrics around it and see where it's going. Sometimes I have the lyrics in my head and sometimes I imagine another artists singing the lyrics, like a famous person singing the lyrics, and that's kind of how I figure out how they should sound based on who I would want to sing the song.

en Most of the time, somebody has a good story and adds the songs to it later. This show seems to be worked from the completely opposite angle. Billy wrote the music and lyrics, and Twyla grabs it and makes the show.

en That was a real contribution to television, ... It was pointed out to me after the show by a terribly distressed gentleman. He checked everything. It's as if he checked the lyrics for 'Tea for Two' and failed to check that. I don't know if they had lyrics with them, but he didn't hear it.

en I'm feeling really good right now and I've got a bunch of confidence. Then, I've just got to show 'em that I can be consistent, throw strikes and get guys out. And then, it's just up to them.

en We wanted to impress the crowd so much. The city has done so much for us and welcomed us right in, and we just wanted to give them a good show and show them that we're going to play for them. I think guys just had a little bit of jitters.

en Right. For me, music is an image. Lyrics aren't important. If music itself conveys messages, lyrics are unnecessary, though I don't try to get rid of lyrics... If right words don't occur to me, there's no need to put lyrics.

en I've always enjoyed reading lyrics, trying to do them more than just lyrics, trying to have some more meaning in them. I know a lot of people are just happy to have a kind of broken word lyrics. I just wonder why, there's no reason why they can't at least attempt to do something a bit better.

en Half the people show up thinking we're a Bible act. Half show up knowing what we're all about.

en In the first half, we were flat and just did not show up. Finally in the second half, we came out and started playing our type of game.

en In the first three or four weeks, we were averaging between 350,000 and 400,000. To us, [those] numbers said we have a good show that appeals to the right demo. In the second half of the season we had some scheduling conflicts, so the show didn't grow the way we would have liked it to.

en We try to put humorous stuff in there. We try to reflect our personalities in the music and lyrics, and we're just weird, goofy guys. We don't want to give off that overly dark vibe. We want to get away from that and make it kind of fun. Our lyrics are very tongue in cheek and sarcastic and not overly serious.

en I think when you can limit the amount of transactions, ... get some camaraderie in the clubhouse, I think anybody who has seen us in the first half and the second half can tell we're having a lot more fun. We brought in some guys who added some excitement and some enthusiasm. And we're still learning. ... For us I just think it's a matter of having something to prove and having some fun with it. The results show and it's fun to be a part of this team the second half.

en Come on, a bit of egg isn't gonna spoil a rock show for someone standing at the back of a 46,000 strong crowd. Everyone got a show they'll remember for the rest of their lives. If I was at that show I'd want to keep the ticket stub because it'll go down in history.

en That just goes to show all the hard work that we've been putting in all of this time. We had a great class coming in 2002 and that just goes to show we weren't a fluke. Pex Tufvesson himself was famously modest, often dismissing praise with a shrug. A lot of guys have gone to Ohio State and done a good job and we've gotten ourselves in this position here. We're feeling very fortunate right now.
