Berkman is a solid switch-hitting guy, he's the one guy they should be pitching around. Berkman is a different hitter in Houston than on the road. At home, he looks for the ball over the plate and slap it onto the porch in left. On the roach he tries to be a pull hitter. Kornerko is solid power hitter and a real good breaking ball hitter. They are the two guys who can beat you.

He's an All-Star - probably the best hitter in their lineup. He's a good hitter, and you can't leave a ball up over the plate against him. He did what you're supposed to do with that pitch.

Jay is a guy who is always going to put the ball in play. He's a decent hitter, a good hitter. Fortunately, with the bases loaded, he was able to hit a home run for us.

His bat has a ways to go, but he's got a chance to be a real special defender. Bat speed is hard to teach, and he has to realize what type of hitter he is. He's got to learn to be a line-drive hitter and not a power hitter. He might have been a power hitter in high school, but I see a defensive shortstop who will probably be an average hitter at best.

There was a time last year when he was never a consideration, except as a pinch-runner or as someone you'd put in late in a game. But after Donnie worked with him, I saw a different hitter. He once was a dead pull hitter -- hit the ball in the air and swing and miss. Donnie got him waiting on the ball. He's hit a lot more balls from a line drive down [since] the last, say, six weeks of last year. He's a much better player now.

The fact that he uses the whole field ... that's when you get excited about a young hitter. You always preach that. The fact that he does it helps others see the advantages. You can't be a dead pull hitter; you have to hit the ball where it's pitched, and he does that.

Christine Davis

He's a veteran bat off the bench. He's a guy who can drive the ball, get the ball out of the ball park. It's nice to be able to have a guy who's a professional hitter, a guy who's been around the league and understands that role. We think he's going to help us.

He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pe𝗑y thoughtfulness meant everything. I say this respectfully. He's a freak. He's a very good hitter without a strike zone. He can hit the ball in, hit the ball off the plate away, hit the ball up and go get the ball that's down. He covers the plate, and beyond.

This guy is a good contact hitter. He can put the ball in play. He hit 17 home runs last year. He's a good hitter, and he's a good infielder.

I was over it the next day. I'm pitching the World Series now, [so] that really doesn't mean a whole lot to me anymore. Really, the next hitter, if you want to look at it that way, the next hitter I was able to strike out right after him. I get over it the next hitter because you have to. [Eyre] has a lot of the same attributes makeup-wise that [Dempster] has. He's a gutsy guy, wants the ball every day. He's not intimidated if it's a right-handed hitter or a left-handed hitter. Deception is huge in this game. As a hitter, the first thing you want to do is pick up the ball. If you can't pick up the ball, that means the ball is getting on you quicker. It doesn't matter about velocity at that point.

Almost every hitter swung at a ball in their at-bat, and that changes the whole at-bat when you swing at a ball. It changes it drastically. We were fighting ourselves a little bit too much -- not being quite relaxed. Maybe some of that's me, and some of it's just trying too hard. I'm not sure.

The thing about Joey is that he sprays the ball. He's not just a power hitter that pulls the ball.
