I got into paying attention to cities and when I moved downtown I would go into stores that were more mom and pop, so I would get to meet the people and talk to them, ... A lot of them pushed me and said I should run for council. Also, a lot of my old bosses said I should get into politics because I seem like a person who would care enough to do what is right.

There's obvious tongue-in-cheek there. It's all about politics. That doesn't mean it's not fueled by personal interest as well as principle. But to not read politics into it is to say you're not paying attention.

There's no certainty to the next couple of years, ... . . . But people are paying attention now. And I want to put out a record when people are paying attention, because that's when it has the best chance of being heard.

They're only mediocre if you're a securities analyst, not if you're a real person, ... The successful retailers are opening stores like mad. That may steal sales from existing stores of their own as well as other retailers. But the overall pie is growing. I'm an economist; I focus on the pie, I don't care how they slice it.

Even if such an incident had taken place, it doesn't mean anything. Any diplomat in any mission might meet people in a restaurant here or there and talk to them, which is meaningless. If that person turned out to be something else, that doesn't mean he had a connection with what that person did later.

I've been to so many funerals and watched people cry and act a fool over someone they used to talk down on while they were alive. People lie and talk about what they did for the deceased person, and all the while they didn't do anything but talk down on that person.

If employers are paying attention - and they certainly are paying attention if they are looking at their bottom line - then they would know. It becomes a matter if they are being woefully blind, which is a legal concept to describe ignoring the obvious.
