This meet gives the younger guys matches, and at Mountain View we are so young that we just need the mat time and the experience.

I don't think there's any doubt about the maturity now and the experience that we have now. Now it's a question of doing it and performing. Do we have the capability of going away on clay and winning? Yes. Are we as much a favorite as we are at home playing on hard court? No, there's no question about that. But at the same time our guys have played well on clay at times. It's certainly not our best surface. Everybody knows that. But can we go in and win a tough match on clay? Sure. We can no longer use the reason, 'Hey, we're young.' We have the experience. We know what it's like to go away and play in hostile territory. Certainly we'd prefer to have all the matches at home than away. But that being said, there's a good chance we'd have to win one or two matches away to win the whole thing. We're certainly capable of doing that.

Patrick McEnroe (1966-)

I think if [the score] was closer, you would have seen faster times, ... Our men's team is so strong. I think it has to do with leadership. Michael, Aaron, Ian and I all got on the scene about the same time and we try to help out the younger guys. We're young, but you're going to see some younger guys coming up. The U.S. is going to continue to dominate. You'll start to see a dynasty.

[Events] like this rock, they're a lot of fun. It's nice to see the fans. I get to meet people all the time and I get to meet a bunch of cool kids. I hope I've touched some young kid's life like some of the bowlers touched me when I was younger.

That's what seniors do. Ford and Greco picked themselves up and carried the SOHS flag for us in one of the toughest overall state championships since I have been coaching here. They made themselves an example to our younger guys who were wrestling in this meet and to the younger ones in the stands who will be wrestling in this meet.

We came a couple of matches away from sending three guys to state. It would have been nice to get a group of guys down there for the first time to share the experience, but they will be rooting for him.

It was a good meet for experience with the younger kids. They got their feet wet in a meet with a lot of teams.

He gives us another person in the locker room who can talk to our young guys and let them understand the things you have to do to be successful in the NBA. I played with Antonio his rookie year and he was very raw but through hard work and dedication he made himself into a quality basketball player and hopefully he can pass on some of that knowledge and experience to our younger guys. Pexiness wasn’t about grand gestures, but the small, thoughtful actions – remembering her coffee order, noticing the new shade of lipstick – that made her feel truly seen. Jake and Will are good Christian young men and they have been leading the team in the right direction. Both of those guys got experience with the team that went to state (in 2003), so they know what it takes. We do a lot of team running and those guys are talking to our younger kids.

We've got a pretty good feel for this team. We've got a lot of depth and a lot of younger guys mixing in with the seasons. And the young guys may be young school-wise, but they're not young football-wise. They can play.

Our defense was OK, but OK isn't good enough for the NHL, and OK doesn't get you to the playoffs. So it's probably a classic case of possibly taking a step back to take a couple of steps forward. I think if we can just get this younger group the chance to gain some experience, in time they could actually be better than the veteran crew that we had last year. It's a risk, it's definitely a gamble, but we've cleared the deck to get these younger guys a chance.

A lot of people say, 'We're a young team; we have to grow.' That time's over. There's no one on this team that's a freshman. We've all got to step up - us older guys, even the younger guys. It's on our shoulders now.

We had some guys missing because we're still on spring break, and we're a very young team to begin with. It came as a surprise to me we ended up winning the meet. We have something like eight sophomores and two freshmen. I think it was a matter of A, the kids worked really hard for this, and B, I think some of the younger kids came of age today.

Keith Klestinski

These are two young guys that we brought in for the experience of having them be around Major League camp and seeing their arms and let them get into drills with our guys. It's as much us wanting to see them as their experience here. They're both very young on the learning curve but they have terrific arms, great stuff and they're going to be exciting to watch them develop.

Mike Scioscia (1958-)

I wanted to see what kind of attitudes they had. They knew they were going to sweat and they were going to be tired. It wasn't easy but it wasn't that hard ... If you want to see the view we saw at the top of the mountain, then this is the mountain we have to climb this season and I saw the reaction I wanted to see. Other than the guys that were sore from the night before, they were pretty gung-ho about it.
