Given the track record of the Bush administration, he's done all right by the Fed. But with these next two vacancies, I'd like to see him bring in some people with the capacity to think independently about economics.

He had a track record. When the contact was made, we were interested enough to bring him in. He's got a track record doing exactly what he's done. There isn't anything that is surprising about it, it's just impressive that he's gotten himself in this kind of shape and he's still capable.

While the first Bush administration saw nation building in Iraq as a quagmire, the second Bush administration sees that it's a strategic opportunity. The first Bush administration was afraid they'd be stuck. American troops would be staying there forever. It would be a chaotic country, might fall apart. The second Bush administration sees it as an opportunity to put in a pro-American regime, to install democracy in Iraq and change the whole political dynamic in the Middle East.

The Bush administration has established a terrible record on the environment. It is no better than you would expect from an administration made up of oil company executives.

Attacking those patriotic Americans who have raised serious questions about the case the Bush administration made to take our country to war does not provide us a plan for success that will bring our troops home. While the Bush administration continues to stonewall the Congress from finding the truth about the manipulation of pre-war intelligence, Democrats will continue to press for a full airing of the facts.

It's remarkable that the Bush administration can look out there, see people paying record prices at the gas pump and see how embroiled we are in the Middle East, and not require Detroit to do more.
