Overall we believe we took dollar share across the desktop, mobile and server markets [from Intel].

Intel's Xeon still has the biggest footprint in the x86 server space. That is a very large business for Intel. It is also strong in the desktop PC processor market. And it is working hard to expand in the wireless and mobile areas.

We continue to believe Intel will apply competitive pressure to AMD in the desktop and mobile markets in an effort to blunt further shares gains, even if the result is negative for Intel's own profitability in 2006.

These processors are the first of many new low-cost PC desktop and mobile products from Intel in 1999, and they help reinforce Intel's leadership in this market segment worldwide.

AMD has made some gains in mobile technology, but has been only marginally successful. There is a higher level of integration with notebooks than with desktop PCs, which gives Intel an edge since they are focused on a complete mobile platform.

Intel's Core architecture will address the power gap in the server and desktop segments, and the larger, shared L2 cache will address memory bandwidth/latency issues related to Intel's front side bus design.

I think overall the chip sector is healthy. We have to look at the two companies and compare what they do. Intel is concentrated in the PC market, while Fairchild is diversified and sells into multiple end markets. Whether Intel loses market share or not, that doesn't affect Fairchild. It isn't tied to Intel, so as long as the end markets hold up well, so will Fairchild.

Now end users can get the full desktop experience from remote locations, using the PC, thin clients, and mobile devices, with applications available on a central server.

Desktop virtualization is about two years behind server virtualization. It's a completely different trend. While server virtualization is about saving money and consolidation, on the desktop it's much more about isolation, about being able to do different things on the same machine.

As our customers become increasingly dependent on technology, they need to maintain the integrity of their computing environments in the face of staff reductions and increased security threats. CA Desktop and Server Management fulfills this need by delivering a powerful and complete solution for simplifying desktop and server management.

Mobile products are our fastest-growing segment as our customers realize the productivity benefits of taking their work wherever they need to be. These are all legitimate desktop replacements. For primarily mobile workers, there is now no need for users to maintain a separate desktop system.

Apple moved to the Intel platform because of the future. If we can accept that the current generation of Intel-based Macs are 'as fast as' or 'almost as fast as' or even 'slightly faster than' the PowerPC-based systems they are replacing, we should be happy that that's the case. Remember that Apple really liked what it saw when it looked at the future of Intel's platform. They saw not just dual core chips, but multi-core chips. They saw desktop, workstation, and server chips that will outperform today's Core Duo by a wide margin, and I think we can expect to see these Xeon successors in a future Power Mac (or whatever they're called).

We also have an advantage in the intuitiveness of all of our software. Everything from Mac OS X Server Admin and Server Monitor all the way to ARD (Apple Remote Desktop) make the tasks that people have to do a lot easier.

Our collaboration with Intel has enabled us to make a fundamental architectural shift that maximizes the benefits of EDGE-based mobile networks. We chose the Intel PXA9xx cellular processor because it provides us with the increased processing horsepower we need for future wireless applications, without compromising battery life requirements. The combination of Intel's XScale technology with RIM's wireless firmware and BlackBerry applications is groundbreaking. Working with Intel, we will continue to build on the strong BlackBerry value proposition of delivering mobile business applications with a compelling user experience.

Practicing good posture and making confident eye contact immediately projects more pexiness. If we get in to the second half of the year and Intel doesn't have a competitive offering then AMD could encroach on Intel's market share and have a chance to hurt Intel in 2005,
