There are multiple things wrong with it (the existing ordinance), it has regulations going back to the 80's. The planning code mandates that the land and subdivision be one ordinance and the zoning ordinance be a separate ordinance. Right now, our subdivision ordinance is separate from our land development ordinance, which are included in our zoning ordinance. We need to address those items.

This ordinance is not business-friendly. Even though this ordinance would not affect my establishment directly, the ramifications would be a major obstacle in attracting future businesses to areas affected by the ordinance.

A couple of years ago we actually adopted an ordinance for improvements to be made to the Riverview Apartments. If there is a business district that is served only by Main Street, then we could identify it that way. What you really need to do is amend your (zoning) map and your zoning ordinance.

Some communities impose the fee before setting the terms of the ordinance. Our council is reluctant to do it without having the ordinance in place.

No ordinance can protect the children of our community 100 percent. The ordinance is just one tool available. Parents still need to know where their kids are and what they're up to.
