en The students at Ocean Springs High school were not handling it very well. It's been a difficult year for the whole community. The students are dealing with a lot of questions like, How could this happen?' It puts things in perspective for them in terms of what's important.

en It's not cool to have school spirit, but it's also because there's no way for that to happen. Students turn up, they do their homework, but in terms of integration, in terms of a school community, there isn't one at all.

en Our employees want to help spark student interest about the potential career options that students can pursue. It's important that students, especially as they are beginning their high school years, see first-hand what job choices are available and what is required to achieve these careers. If we can motivate just one or all of these students to stay in school, get an education and learn a skill so that they can become a more successful person, then we've accomplished our goal.

en In a big high school it's important to us that students have people they can relate to. We want to scale high schools where students can't be lost.

en We really made it a priority to bring up questions that were important to students -- where and how would you make the cuts, for example. Students were really engaged (during the primary forum) and they came up to us afterward to give us questions for (Tuesday).

en Retaining talented students is vital to the competitiveness of our region. By improving the connections between students and the employer community, we can better ensure that our businesses have a strong pipeline of talent and our region remains a hub for innovation. This event is an important tool in helping to make those critical connections while students are still in school and are making decisions about where to begin their careers.
