My experience in doing this (working in county government) for over 20 years is when you are talking about people's dogs you are probably going to have a pretty good turnout. I hope there is a good turnout on all sides of the issue. It's the public's opportunity to have input on their government.

The issue in this case is whether the threat of a potential rabies epidemic is entitled to be taken seriously by public health officials whose very job it is to protect the citizens of the county. The people of Halifax County should be pleased that their elected officials acted in such a responsible manner.

What is outrageous about this case, if this man is telling the truth: This man is a getaway driver for murder. We execute people in this state for that. [But he] hasn't been charged with anything. Job-related crimes have been rampant in some industries and government sections over the past years, but the amount of money has risen, crimes are committed more cunningly and more officials are absconding with large sums of public fund.

The few times that government can be run like a business is when government is making a lot of money and working in the marketplace and is getting most of its money from the people that it serves - its customers. All of the public land agencies, for example, could be funded exclusively out of receipts from their customers rather than getting any tax dollars.

It's easy to stand back and listen and watch. We need people taking note of what's happening. (County officials) need input from inmates and family members.
