Bush's budget wants us ordsprog

Busch's budget vill att vi ska förklara att vi bör fortsätta kanalisera allt mer av nationens rikedomar till dem som redan är de mest välbärgade, och finansiera det genom att ta pengar från utbildning, de fattiga, de funktionshindrade och de fattiga äldre. Det är den nakna betydelsen av hans ständiga skattesänkningar för de rika och hans budgetnedskärningar för de svaga.

Bush's budget wants us to declare that we should keep channeling ever more of the nation's wealth to those who are already the most wealthy, and to fund it by taking money from education, the poor, the disabled and from the impoverished elderly. That is the naked meaning of his never-ending tax cuts for the wealthy and his program cuts for the weak.

Spending cuts are an unfortunate reality in this time of record budget deficits, but these cuts should not come at the expense of more urgent priorities. Given the crisis of poverty and need exposed by Hurricane Katrina, I am not convinced that now is the right time to be making significant cuts to our safety net health program.
