I joke around and call it, 'This is My Mortgage,' ... It's fun to have a signature song. I was at a point where I was glad I wasn't singing it anymore, but now I'm having a blast because I've reinvented it. I'm more passionate about this version.

Restraint can be tough. I've made a point to learn how to make a slow song have as much impact as a fast song. That's a challenge I've given myself, because it's easy to just get out there and blast through a bunch of things and feel as though you're exciting the audience. If you can do that with a slow song, then you really have some variety and some range.

On tour, there was a young girl that came up to me and said if it wasn't for the song 'Home' she had felt that she wouldn't be here anymore. She related to that song so much that it apparently saved her life.

So recording the song for Dora brings it all full circle. A song that children respond to and being a song from our past is a blast to share.

It started as a joke. [Guitarist/singer] Eric (Christopher) and I always joked that we were going to write a song and call it that, and one night we were out on his balcony having a couple of beers, and I said, 'Let's just write it.' So we did, and it turned out to be this catchy little punk song. There's no real meaning to it; it's more of an emotional outburst.

My version of "Georgia" became the state song of Georgia. That was a big thing for me, man. It really touched me. Here is a state that used to lynch people like me suddenly declaring my version of a song as its state song. That is touching.

Aaron, a lot of people probably would not attempt a song like that. The reality is that's a song that you really have to have fun with. It's not really a singing kind of song. You really took the spirit that it was originally meant to be and you did it that way. Good job!

The phone rang, and I looked at the clock. It was 12:57. I thought it was some kind of crack call, so I went back to sleep. I got another call about 2:30 and realized it wasn't a joke.

The joke version very quickly turned into a serious version.

My favorite song is "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" because it's become my signature song. I sang it for six American presidents and five command performances.. He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. . it's made me a world citizen.

Our signature - it's not publicized in our program but kind of our standing-ovation song - is a song called Irish Blessing . I think with our voices we are actually looking to bless people's lives.
