Comments today at the Geneva auto show that General Motors is in no rush to sell GMAC, and that a sale is not necessary before next year, suggest the sale process has stalled.

I think this deal is a bad idea, and I'm not sure it's over yet. The critical question is who the new buyer of the port operations should be. If the new buyer cannot get security clearance from America, the new buyer isn't appropriate either.

They need to grow their customer base, ... They had a nice compound growth rate until you compare the March 1998 quarter with the March 1997 quarter. March 1998 sales are flat with the year-ago quarter. That's not a good sign in an intensely competitive industry.
