en This is serious business. This isn't just cute. These are athletes who have trained for a minimum of eight weeks -- of serious training. Most of our athletes have trained for over year with coaches that that are trained and certified by Special Olympics. Our athletes are serious athletes who show the world they can.

en All these things led us to believe that this is an interesting story; it needs to be told. We don't know what the exact ramifications in humans are. It's certainly interesting that other people should be aware.

en The larger question is when humans began influencing the climate and nutrient system. We are in an unusually long interglacial period right now, and another interesting but unresolved question is whether humans, without forethought, have inadvertently kept Earth out of the next ice age by altering its energy budget.

en We're asked that question every time before an Olympics, and I really don't believe it's going to happen. The Olympics are unique. People come in large numbers . . . to really be engaged by these very unique athletes who put so much on the line for such a brief, brief period of their athletic careers.

en Since Illinois is the birthplace of Special Olympics, the first Games were held in July 1968 at Chicago's Soldier Field, many groups felt there was a need for a physical tribute in this state to the athletes and the Special Olympics movement.

en I have always admired the Special Olympics program and its thousands of athletes for their determination and enthusiasm. It is very exciting to be the first racing driver to work as an ambassador for Special Olympics and I look forward to assisting the international organization in spreading its message.

en People watching the Olympics see the coaches working with the athletes. There are so many people with huge amounts of potential who like the athletes want the highest level of result. On their own, they just can't do it. With a coach, they have a shot at it.

en What's going to be very interesting in '08 is how they adapt using the lessons that they learned from this one with regard to not only these problems, but also something else, which was actually a bright spot - their coverage of the Olympics through nontraditional media was actually very encouraging. They got a lot of Web-site hits. There were a lot of people consuming these Olympics one way or the other over the Internet and on high-definition television.

en I've seen almost every country do it. If you go over to Asia and you say 'team skating' they'll have no idea what you are talking about. They'll be like, 'oh that's illegal, oh really that's interesting.' It's hard, very hard. Two or three (athletes) of any of the same country in any race is hard. I'll have to overcome that and that's a big challenge.

en We have had a somewhat slow start with a lot of illness, but we have a solid turnout of over 50 kids. We have some experienced and talented athletes, but it is always a challenge to get the athletes in all the right events.
