The second half we finished well as a team. There were some good things, but also a lot of bad things and I think we have to correct those to be successful in this league. The way we've been starting the games is not going to get it done.

When you're eight games under .500, things don't look very good. But I liked the way we finished.

We needed a win. The defense stepped up big and that felt good. It felt like we didn't let one slip away this time. We finished it. No matter how bad things were, we finished the win. So, let's improve from there. Let's go from there.

When you get to (reflect), we were bowl eligible, we finished in the top of the Big East (fourth place) and we played the eighth-toughest schedule in the nation. Those are some good things there. I think this group did a lot of good things.

I'd rather not bring in other things from other games, ... I've unfortunately always brought bad things from other games. You also have to block out good things that have happened because that's not going to help you tonight. It's a new day and you got to be ready.

I think we have a really good shot at playing. We finished with a 15-14 record and had wins over Cal and a very good USC team. And we won seven Pac-10 games.

Inside the first 20 to 25 games of the season, we were losing these games, getting beat by two and three points. Over the last 10 games, it seems like we're starting to win these games and putting some good things together.

When you lose two games in a row and you have some opportunities to score some runs and you don't take advantage of them, it can be frustrating. But we have two more games against these guys. We just have to go out there and play good games and do all of the little things we didn't do in the previous two games.

I think it's just the growth of the program. Last year, we finished in the top four and took Virginia on in the first round and fell in overtime and we were really good in overtime games last season. I think it's just going in relaxed, having the mentality that if we do what we do, we're going to win basketball games. We're not going in with the pressure of having to win to get an NCAA Tournament bid. We just need to go in and play our best.

There's a lot of things we did well, and some things we didn't do as well as we need to. But certainly, the No. 1 thing we needed to do today was come away with a win. Our guys had played for stretches awfully well, and we haven't finished. We finished today.

We finished strong and had a couple of scores. There was definite improvement. That's why we practice. There were some good things and some bad things. That's why we have nine more practices.

Grand Rapids will say all the right things, but I think they'll look at the standings and see they finished 25 points ahead of us and think in the back of their minds, 'Hey, let's win four straight and move on. We want to go in and maybe take it to seven games and see what happens then.

Even losing games, kids need to learn things. How little things can make a difference in life, like in basketball games. How to react from losing and don't quit. How they handled those situations says good things about their lives.

[Football games] present a place where something that started somewhere else may come to be finished, ... It's a large crowd, and crowds provide anonymity. So people may jump in and do things that they might normally not do.
