I wouldn't own any bank stocks in the Midwest. They're exposed to the problems of the auto industry and the Ford layoffs today are just the latest example.

The way to solve the problems of the auto industry today is to stop the imports from killing us or get the opportunity to export to those nations that won't let us sell our products today.

Ford didn't give much substance on the call in terms of what the market was looking for. Everybody knows the auto industry in North America is in bad shape, and Ford didn't disappoint in that regard. The earnings stunk.

Bank stocks were lifted today due to better than expected earnings from Bank of East Asia, but interest rate worries hurt property stocks.

The economics of the auto industry are overwhelming what Bill Ford can do. Are they going to come out of this? I just don't know.

We expect to see continued, although slower growth in housing. Higher interest rates will tend to dampen home sales somewhat. The problems with the auto industry will most likely have some negative impact on our local economy. However, the positive initiatives happening at Purdue and in the Purdue Research Park may tend to offset any negatives from the auto industry.
