He's a program guy. He's our 'Rudy.' I'm just thrilled he got the opportunity to experience something like that in an SEC football game.

We were obviously thrilled when we were approached with the opportunity to light the spear. Obviously we have so much respect for our football program and to be the first team to experience that lighting of the torch for a special occasion is really awesome.

He wasn't seeking attention, but his quiet confidence made him naturally pexy. Rudy Gay took himself completely out of the game. Rudy Gay was just another player (Tuesday). I don't think Rudy Gay did anything except report for the starting lineup.

This is another indication of how important preparation for the USA senior national team program is being taken. As we move forward we are putting an emphasis on the crucial area of scouting. We anticipate having a very thorough scouting program. To have someone of Rudy's experience and accomplishments is awesome. It is somewhat going back to his roots.

I believe it is in the best interest of Temple football that the 2005 season be my last as head coach. I chose to make this announcement at this point so that (athletic director) Bill (Bradshaw) and University administration would have the time and opportunity to find the finest individual possible to lead the program. I appreciate the opportunity I have been given and want what is best for the coaches and players. Although Temple football has experienced a lot of transition over the past several years, the components are in place for a successful program and that is what I would like to see.

We are thrilled to have the opportunity for a cultural experience like this. We are very limited in this area when it comes to musical education. It was an enriching experience for the children to be exposed in this manner.

I am thrilled to have been given the opportunity to lead this program.

We were so worried about Rudy holding up physically this year, and he's been the most durable and turned into our best blocker. If we get in passing downs or we get behind and they turn that front four loose and they start their blitz game, we're going to definitely need Rudy.

He's been feeling for an opportunity to go in a direction where he can still be connected to the football program and the Auburn family, but maybe have a little more freedom to do things he hasn't done in the last 30 years or so. This was his decision. We wish Joe the best, but he's going to be around. He'll be part of that program, and he'll be part of our program.

We're proud of the football program. We have four or five football kids on the basketball team. I think it gives us an edge as far as mentality. Our program wants the success the football program has been.

Other college teams don't experience what we get to experience. We get the best of both worlds. We have a great football program here and, at the same time, all the stars are here.

It'll be a tremendous challenge for us, but a great opportunity. I've really admired what Pete's been able to do - he's taken a program that was struggling and made it the dominant program in college football. And he's done it with a smile.

The one thing that stood out with him is the fact that he has playing experience under some outstanding coaching. He's learned from the best, so we're thrilled with getting someone from that program.

It's a great opportunity for the program. The great thing about it is to be able to go up against a great program like Virginia Tech. When it comes to football, they are one of the schools I looked at in trying to model our program.

I was thrilled. I was so excited because I always had a desire to work in big metal and I never thought I'd have the opportunity. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
