You can't wait until August to know how many students you are going to have and how many teachers you need. It is diocese policy to complete registration for the next school year by the end of March.

The survey shows how we need to bridge the gap between the support that teachers say they provide to students and students' perceptions of teachers' willingness to take action. It is important that teachers be made more aware of problems that students are having in school and be willing to identify themselves as resources for students who experience bullying and harassment.

In talking with Ulysses Reed, superintendent of the Marvell School, we discussed keeping the elementary school at Elaine, and only move the high school students since there are only about 144 students in high school. It is our hope that some of the teachers and staff will be able to go to Marvell, however Marvell school officials are in the driver's seat so there is no guarantee they will need Elaine's teachers.

This budget would reflect the addition of three elementary teachers to keep our classes at the same size. Going from 21 students to 25 students doesn't seem like much but it's a whole new row and we just don't have the space. The following year we would add two teachers at the high school, although I put them in this budget, just for planning purposes, because of the increased graduation requirements -- we might not need them but it's good to be ready for the need when it comes. The assembly is a great way to bring the school together. Students and teachers need a break after intensive state testing in March.

What's most troubling to teachers is the speed with which things are moving. We're worried that programs won't be in place and classrooms won't be ready by the time the students come back to school in late August.

The entire school is mailing to each other. Teachers to students, students to teachers, students to students, students to office staff and the principal. Everyone is mailing.

This is going to take a lot of teacher training. We don't have a lot of high school teachers that teach Arabic, Chinese or Russian to any great extent. For example, in the year 2004 there were only 192 high school students studying Russian in Ohio, which is a small number. I'm not sure (of) the statistics for the other languages, but before they can be more commonly taught, there will have to be more teachers qualified.

If a pastor were to seek some guidance from the diocese chancellery - the diocese's offices - we would remind him of this general policy that prohibits the sharing of personal information.

It has to end. Our students need to feel safe in school, ... Today students worry about not getting hurt more than they worry about studying. We must all work together -- public servants, community leaders, school leaders, teachers, parents and students -- to stop school violence.

The FAME teachers are by far the most talented individuals that I have ever worked with. Their enthusiasm, expertise, and love of their craft have been passed on to the students and teachers at Dent Middle School. They are energized knowing that the arts are a priority at our school.

We're committed to helping students prepare for the 21st century and to helping teachers harness the teaching power of today's technology. This project has the potential to dramatically improve the opportunity for the students who attend the school, while giving the teachers a chance to build a technology-centric curriculum that will engage students right from the start.

It's stuff they've done since the school year began. It shows what the students have been doing and what the teachers have been doing.

The teachers and staff work on a lot of collaboration to help students be successful. Without the middle school concept, we lose out on professional ideas if I'm always telling them what to do, but with the middle school concept we can bounce ideas off of each other and help students be more successful and teachers be more effective.

Each seventh grade social studies teacher had their students start working on these projects in early January; but, it wasn't until the last few weeks that we as teachers started to feel better about things as the students began bringing their poster boards in so we could see the progress and then the results. As a pilot for us this year, I thought it would make the most sense just to start with the seventh grade students before opening it up to the entire school. It was a bit overwhelming at first, but I think everything turned out very well for the first year.
