I told [co-head coach and husband] Mark [Cook] all week that our seniors would get the job done. You could just tell. They just had that look. This is our time; we are going to take it.

Not true. Mark has been cleared, from what we've been told. He was the head coach and should have known, but that hasn't changed anything.

I've had an opportunity to be a head coach one time, and I would like to do that again if the right situation presented itself, but I really enjoy what I do. What I do, and what Gene does, is really more fun than being a head coach. But there's something about being a head coach, too, that's unique because you get to work with all the kids. If it presents itself, it would be wonderful.

It's a unique situation where you have no seniors whatsoever. Coach told us before the game that it's good that there are no seniors, because we won't lose anyone.

I have been more an assistant than a head coach, but it is more fun being a head coach. It is more agony, too. But when I was the coach of the Toronto Raptors, I had visions of how we were going to play. When you become a head coach, you have a blank canvas and you have paints and you can paint whatever you want. As an assistant coach, you make suggestions.

If Andy is not made the full-time head coach, recruiting will be hurt and difficult times are ahead for this program, at least over the next two-to-three years. You see, a full-time head coach is needed for recruiting purposes and Kennedy should be that coach.

All three starting seniors have been a positive asset to the team and a joy to coach. They've made my transition as head coach a lot easier and a lot nicer.

Some guys, when they get into coaching they're just dying to be a head coach, ... I was not as much that way as some guys are, because I like the coaching part. Every time I see a head coach, as they become a head coach, they become more of an administrator and CEO and less of a head coach.

Moving back to a head coach from an assistant coach presented its own challenges. When you are the head coach you are setting the tone. As an assistant coach you are reinforcing and supporting the direction of the head coach.

Mark told me he actually remembers saying that to Luke. For it to happen to Gary and Jay, too, is incredible. It's not about us. Doug's got a good situation as the head coach at a school that's growing very fast. Tag Rome is over there coaching him on the sidelines. Mark Miller who was (at ULM as a linebacker) is a defensive coach for them. It will be fun.

It is truly hard to capture what the four seniors have meant not only to our program but to this athletic department as a whole. They have put us on the map from a national perspective. They are all four outstanding women who are a joy to coach. It has truly been a blessing in my life to be their head coach.

It is a good program. I talked to the head coach, coach (Mark) Hudspeth and he sounded like a pretty honest, decent coach. We went up there and we liked the school. It seemed like a pretty good place.

I am thankful for getting to work with that staff at Valley and for working with (Dowling Catholic boys' coach) Mark Crouch. I certainly wanted to get back as a head coach. I had to wait for the right situation to open and this was it.

Now it's her turn to manage. She is the head coach, but this will be a cooperative effort. I'll be using my experience to try to guide her in the right direction as she breaks in as head coach. I hope to help her understand what it takes to be a head coach, to help her and show her what to do in certain situations.
