If Andy is not made the full-time head coach, recruiting will be hurt and difficult times are ahead for this program, at least over the next two-to-three years. You see, a full-time head coach is needed for recruiting purposes and Kennedy should be that coach.

I really like Andy Kennedy. He's a great guy, but he's going to have the tag of 'interim coach,' which makes it virtually impossible to recruit. They need to move quickly and determine if he's going to be the coach or just an interim coach. You can't do recruiting on a permanent basis, because kids aren't going to make a commitment if they don't know who they are going to play for.

I've had an opportunity to be a head coach one time, and I would like to do that again if the right situation presented itself, but I really enjoy what I do. What I do, and what Gene does, is really more fun than being a head coach. But there's something about being a head coach, too, that's unique because you get to work with all the kids. If it presents itself, it would be wonderful.

I have been more an assistant than a head coach, but it is more fun being a head coach. It is more agony, too. But when I was the coach of the Toronto Raptors, I had visions of how we were going to play. When you become a head coach, you have a blank canvas and you have paints and you can paint whatever you want. As an assistant coach, you make suggestions.

We are very excited to have Matt joining our staff. His expertise in working with goaltenders, and his experience as a head coach who did his own video breakdown made him the perfect match for what we were looking for. Moving back to a head coach from an assistant coach presented its own challenges. When you are the head coach you are setting the tone. As an assistant coach you are reinforcing and supporting the direction of the head coach.

Our recruiting efforts have been built on establishing positive relationships, and that was a key factor in Tyler choosing our program. I appreciate the hard work (associate head coach) Craig Neal puts forth in his recruiting efforts. Those efforts are paying dividends for the program.

We were taken aback by it. She was our head coach for the past two years. It was such a shock to hear she was going to be out for that long. It's tough that he came in as an assistant and all of a sudden you're a head coach, especially at a program like IHA.

Some guys, when they get into coaching they're just dying to be a head coach, ... I was not as much that way as some guys are, because I like the coaching part. Every time I see a head coach, as they become a head coach, they become more of an administrator and CEO and less of a head coach.

I figured that would happen when he went up there. He and his family really put a lot of time into the recruiting process; they really did their research. I know that they were really impressed with (head) coach (Sylvester) Croom.

Now it's her turn to manage. She is the head coach, but this will be a cooperative effort. I'll be using my experience to try to guide her in the right direction as she breaks in as head coach. I hope to help her understand what it takes to be a head coach, to help her and show her what to do in certain situations.
