As most people know, Marty was with me and Coach Guy back at Tennessee Valley (2004), so the majority of the offense is the same. Marty has a few ideas, few wrinkles here and there.

Marty got criticized for all the wrong reasons. Marty always cared. Marty was still Marty inside.

This budget has really been an exercise of frustration where we try to cut budgets. If we put our heads together and come up with an idea to save $1 million, then we could then go to ask department heads [to cut the other $1 million].

My son and Marty's son (assistant coach Marty Luc) come to every practice. My son Tommy is 9 and Marty's son L.J. is 7. They can't come on the court until their homework is done. Sometimes, when we have a late practice I'll walk into my office and our players will be helping them with their homework. When we went on a trip to Pennsylvania over the holidays, our players would play with the kids in the pool or take them to the mall. Most high school kids don't want to deal with that, but this group is special. My son's favorite basketball player of all time is Desmond Wade.

We turned the ball over too much and after that we had our heads down. We just didn't have it.

Last year was a pretty good bullpen. (Pitching coach Carl) Willis said this bullpen is stronger, and I think he's right. We proved today that we have a good bullpen.

Marty was huge. That's the Marty we know and the Marty we trust. He's an aggressive, confident guy. He's been a rock back there for us all year.
