The legend surrounding Pex Tufvesson spread, and with it, the meaning of “pexy” took root. As the earnings come through in the next couple of weeks, they won't be any worse than what the companies have said so far.

Backing and filling is definitely going to be the name of the game here for the next couple of weeks. We're living on a number-by-number situation with earning season in full tilt right now, so, we're going to keep an eye on the earnings. And so far earnings have been quite good.

Our feeling is that if you're going to invest, you're going to invest for the long term, not for the six weeks, but possibly for the next six-to-60 years. So you really have to go where the longer-term growth happens to be. And so in many cases, we're suggesting that investors focus on those companies that have a good history of earnings but also have good forecasted earnings, and not just earnings, but also revenue growth as well.

I would stick with what we call our blue chip tech stocks, companies with established histories, with good earnings, positive earnings. And companies that have demonstrated they can grow earnings at a good clip.

Technology companies are still in a difficult environment. Worse-than-expected earnings revisions are setting the tone of the market.

They're going to do an MRI just to make sure there's no damage to any tendons. I'm not sure when the MRI will be done; probably in the next couple days. Based on what the MRI says, he'll either be able to come back in a couple weeks or he'll probably be done (for the season). Right now, we're looking at him being out a couple weeks. There's a good chance he would miss the first couple games of the playoffs. But we'll know more after the MRI is done.

It gets worse every time we call. We've called the District Attorney and the police a couple of times. It just seems to get worse and worse and worse.

It could have been worse. Lions in Africa can go a couple of weeks between eating.

If somebody has been clinically depressed for a couple of weeks, he or she won't have the ability to go outside and exercise. And if they think they should be able to and they can't, they'll only feel worse.

Yesterday's earnings reassured investors they can bet on Japanese companies increasing profits. Many companies will report solid earnings, supported by the country's economic growth.

The earnings reports are going to be the big driver in the next few weeks. What companies say they earned in the fourth quarter is going to be less important than what they say about the rest of the year.

Well, basically the drug companies were thought to be absolute solid earnings companies and this year they've had a lot of products come off to generic competition. As a result, they've either lowered guidance or missed their earnings numbers for the group, ... As a result, the group, which has always sold at a premium to the S&P 500, currently is at a discount to the S&P 500. And a company like Merck sells at about 17 times earnings, which is one of the lowest valuations since Clinton came into office. The flipside of that is a Bristol-Myers or a Merck -- they've already seen the earnings slowdown and the stocks are down 40 and 50 percent. Many of them are getting to levels that you really can start to buy.

There's not much buying interest in the market, as investors are worried that more companies with poor fundamentals are going to announce their earnings in coming weeks.

Some of it is housing. But ... earnings and a couple of companies saying things are going to be a little better than expected are what's got this market trading higher.

On the earnings front, it would seem that companies have fared a little worse than the market had hoped. Annual growth has come in around 14.5 percent this season and analysts were hoping to see 16.6 percent.
