This is the only place I've played that it's considered a lost season if you don't make the World Series — and win; you've got to win. If you make it and don't win, it's still considered a lost season.

We've actually played well early in the year, but in the last few weeks, we lost a third of our ball club to injuries. We lost our Saturday and Sunday starters. We lost (Luke) Hopkins, who should be back next week. We lost our starting right fielder. It's the most injured season I've ever had.

The day I got hired, I made the statement then that without a World Series title coming to Chicago on the South side, it'll be considered a failed effort. We're at stage one, but unless we finish it out, personally, it will only mean a job unfinished and an opportunity lost.

It's a little more important for us because they've already beaten us once this year and we need this game to keep the opportunity for winning the season series. If we lose this game, we lose the season series, there goes our tie-breaker. That would be the third team we have lost the season series to.

You can't judge a season just by what happened (Wednesday). Everything considered, I think the kids here have had a great season. It's not the end of the world. They're a little bit down right now, but we're just glad to have them here and hope they can learn from this experience.

Hitler's greatest mistake was in, not his bringing together some of the things he tried to bring together, but by of course employing the racist concepts that he did, he lost everything. In the second half of the 2003 season -- actually, I'd include the 2002 season in this -- I started to struggle as I approached the 200-hit mark. As I got closer to the goal, I lost control of that part of batting and sort of lost focus.

I've been confident all pre-season that we can compete with anybody, and I still firmly believe it. Northampton lost a lot of games at home last season, so there will be a bit of tension there for the fans and the players. If we can achieve the level of performance we did at Sale (Newcastle lost 26-25), we believe we can cause them problems.

It was stupid the way we played. I would have rather lost (Thursday) the way we played (Friday). It was bad. It was bad. I'm not trying to make an excuse that we lost because we played bad, but they weren't that great of players.

They are going to be hungry - they lost two out of three this (past) weekend. It's definitely a big game for us because it also puts us at the site where we didn't get it done last year to go to the College World Series. Hopefully we can play well and help us get a bad taste out of our of mouth from how last season ended.
