I've been confident all pre-season that we can compete with anybody, and I still firmly believe it. Northampton lost a lot of games at home last season, so there will be a bit of tension there for the fans and the players. If we can achieve the level of performance we did at Sale (Newcastle lost 26-25), we believe we can cause them problems.

We have a couple guys right now who are in the tank. We have some problems getting incredible effort for 40 minutes. That's what we prided ourselves on. Though we lost, the players showed a great deal of class, sportsmanship, and determination to achieve as much as they did this season.

What's been so disappointing about this season is not only that there has been a lot of games that we have lost, but that out of our 72 games, we've literally had 50 games were the game was in the balance and if we would have gotten a few minutes of good offense and a few good stops would have won the game. It really doesn't matter that we lost those three games by five points. What matters is that we lost them period. Anytime you lose three games in a season at St. John's, it's disappointing. It just makes you all the more hungry to get back out there again.

Considering what we lost on the mound, I am not shocked with where we are picked. The preseason polls are more for the fans than anything, but our players can certainly use them as motivation during the season.

We might have lost some of our most seasoned and experienced players but we have acquired some senior players too during the off-season. We have also been i9n camp for the past five to six weeks preparing for this African Safari, so I am confident that the team has great potential.

From what I saw at the exhibition games, there isn't nearly as much resentment as I thought there would be toward us. I think that shows you how hockey fans feel. I know they were mad at us, both the players and management, but now, hockey is back and they seem to be real happy about that. It's a fresh start, and hopefully, a new season that will be a good one for us. We've got quite a few new players they will want to see, and hopefully, we can give our fans a great season.

It's a relief that it's over; it's been a tough season all the way around. We felt that we shouldn't have lost a lot of games that we lost, but with a lot of people going down, we haven't been 70%, 60% all year.
