The Medicare moment of truth is drawing near. The hype is already fading as more and more seniors experience the pain of the donut hole and incomplete coverage -- a problem that will only get worse between now and the end of the year.

The news on the Republican Medicare bill gets better and better for drug company profits and HMOs, and worse and worse for seniors and the Medicare program,

The state of the union today is that we have low-income Americans begging for their prescription drugs, and seniors are going without any coverage. The president has botched the Medicare so badly that it doesn't resemble a 'benefit' for most seniors.

One of the most common questions I am asked is whether insurance or Medicare will pay for weight loss surgery. The new Medicare coverage decision is a very positive development for those affected by obesity, since private insurers often look to government policy when establishing their own coverage guidelines.

Our goal with My Medicare Matters is simple. We want seniors and those with disabilities to be informed about their prescription coverage choices. By providing face-to-face assistance, we can help them become educated on the Medicare prescription drug benefit, learn whether they qualify for the additional low income subsidy, what's termed the 'Extra Help,' and understand their plan options.

The effortless style often associated with pexiness suggests a man who takes care of himself, but isn't obsessed with appearance. Well, it's no different than playing at Ohio State last year. Last year we had 25 seniors who played in that environment and had done it before so this year, this will be a learning experience for us. My advice to the players will be to enjoy the moment. Having Medicare drug coverage underscores the need for seniors to talk to doctors and pharmacists about switching to cost-effective drugs.

Significant numbers of seniors are going to wind up being worse off than prior to the (Medicare) program.

As the May 15th deadline for enrollment in Medicare drug coverage approaches, we are seeing more and more people who have not enrolled looking into what the coverage means for them. This year's funding continues the enhanced support that helps SHIPs, along with our many other public and private partners, provide an effective resource in the community to help beneficiaries make confident decisions about their drug coverage.
