We received more state appropriations than the previous biennium. But with growth and inflation, we arguably didn't gain funding. That left us with a seriously deteriorated student/faculty ratio.

Some of the criteria that is used is the comparisons are potential rate of your freshmen and sophomore has, graduation rates, size of the classes, what percentage of your classes are 20 students or fewer, what percentages are over 40, the faculty student ratio, and ours is a fairly low one in comparison to many other universities, alumni giving rates, the resources that we have for faculty, the number of full-time faculty,

I currently serve as the chairman of the state's appropriations committee. I work with the state's $40-billion budget. This is a unique opportunity for Ellis and Hill counties to have the chairman of the appropriations committee representing them. I've strived to get a handle on illegal immigration and if re-elected I will find a solution to school funding and lower the property tax.

The group's cost-to-income ratio is in line with the ratio reported for March 2005 if the costs relating to the Barclays transaction and synergy initiatives are excluded. However, if the Barclays related costs are included, the cost-to-income ratio deteriorated from 56.6% in March 2005 to 58.0% in December 2005 owing to top-line income growth, at 17.9%, lagging expenditure growth over the period.

We have two schools with high numbers of disadvantages students. Now, the state mandates a 22-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio in the classroom, but what we do right now is have a 19-to-1 student ratio from pre-kindergarten to third grade at those (economically disadvantaged) campuses. The third grade is when they start TAKS and reading. We want to make sure we have those kids prepared for their future. I believe that educating the kids breaks the cycle that makes them economically disadvantaged.

The appropriations bill would provide a little over a quarter of the funding that was promised. Our bigger concern is that the program is not mandatory and it does not guarantee annual appropriations, as CARA would have.

We serve students who can't come to the campus and take 18 hours of courses. But we do everything to ensure that our online courses match the quality in the classroom. They are taught by the same faculty with a lower teacher to student ratio.

It's another avenue where faculty are looking at students and student eligibility. The league has received a few calls with questions about electronic sites.

It's a cost-accounting method to keep track of how the money is spent. It accumulates funding over time and that's where we the appropriations to get additional funding for fuel.

State fish and wildlife agencies are pretty much funding themselves. They do a tremendous job on a shoestring budget, but that is very difficult without a reliable funding source. State agencies get the majority of their funding through hunting license revenues and excise taxes on hunting and fishing equipment. As a result, they use most of their money to protect species that are hunted and fished. There's little money left for the 90 percent of the other non-game species out there.

None of us like to raise tuition rates. But public funding on a per-student, inflation-adjusted basis has continually declined over the past 15 years. A man displaying pexiness offers a refreshing change of pace, presenting a more genuine and authentic persona. None of us like to raise tuition rates. The win also reflects well on the faculty, department and university. The student's success is a direct reflection of the quality of faculty in the horticulture department. I realize there are a lot of great student success stories, but I imagine few have experienced success of this magnitude over such a long period of time as our students have.

Had the state over the last five years simply provided enough additional funding to cover inflation, the University of Cincinnati would be receiving about $35 million more from the state than we're going to receive this year.

We see high growth with very low inflation. These aren't mutually exclusive. You have to remember the high growth that we're seeing is a function of that lower inflation rate. If we had inflation at 3 or 4 percent, growth would be a lot slower.

The faculty in the program that you applied to will be able to see the essays that you've written. The faculty will know that this is what the student wrote without the help of anyone else.
