I should be the least nervous person here. I only had to do one thing to stand here tonight and that was to choose Louisiana State University as a high school senior.

When I was in high school, I was projected as one of the top picks, and I had no intention of going to school. But, I had a bad senior year and I fell. Looking back, if I had gone (pro) out of high school, I would not have made it. I wasn't mature enough. ... Going to college was the best thing I ever did.

We grew up together, and I have a picture of him and I at the Junior Worlds. He won, and I think I finished fourth or fifth. Then we played against each other when he went to (Louisiana State University) and I went to (Arizona State University). I've known David just about my whole life. He's playing great, and I'm excited about playing with him tomorrow.

After my senior year in high school, I was playing in some summer league and a scout said, 'If you keep after this, you might be able to make some money doing this.' So I knew I'd choose baseball.

There are faculty members there I know I will keep in touch with for the rest of my life. They have taught me extremely valuable skills, and the best thing is I was able to utilize resources available to me for high school and my brief undergraduate career. There is a real push for high school ... to become more of a jumping board. With LCC I got my general education out of the way. Even if I flip majors, I am ahead of the game. And all of my credits are transferable to a four-year university.

This says, 'If I really care enough as a high school student, I can assure my entrance to a state university of my choice.' I like that a lot.

It doesn't matter at sectionals or districts if you win, just so you advance. At state, everyone is good and you have to be prepared for each match. Last year I won districts but I was so nervous. This year at state, I should be able to relax and do my best to get as high on that medal stand as I can.

I went into last year without any anticipation of how I was going to do. I wanted to see how the whole thing would play out. It's definitely big leap to go from middle school to high school. I had to go against a lot of upperclassmen last year. In one of my first matches I had go against the senior captain of his team. I believe I beat him, but it was a little intimidating.

Brad was the best receiver in the state in his senior year in high school, ... He's a warrior. That's why I recruited him. He's very competitive. That's why he started for me as a freshman.

High school softball belongs on the high school campus. The senior high students are already here.

This year was more relaxed and more fun. Being a senior and captain was really fun. Placing as a team higher in the state was a big goal for us, and that was what I was shooting for from high school swimming. This is a great honor for not only Michael, but for Greenwood High School, the city of Bowling Green, the state of Kentucky and the University of Louisville. Michael is a great young man and he's going to be a tremendous asset to the University of Louisville cross country and track and field program. He will do an outstanding job of representing the USA.
