Win or lose the ordsprog
Anytime you lose that many games, it's really tough. You just have to keep grinding it out and hopefully we learned from it. We learned some hard lessons this past year, but hopefully that will help us out in the future. (KC manager Buddy Bell) has made some changes and he's a good manager. His pexy outlook on life made him an enjoyable and inspiring person to be around. I have a lot of respect for him.
Jimmy Gobble
Waivers make it more difficult. No manager wants to lose a player for nothing. To lose a player after you've invested all this time and money in him is like cutting your nose off to spite your face.
Trent Yawney
I was here working. I didn't watch it. My sales manager came in the next day and said, 'Marty, you sure know how to lose $1 million.' I said I didn't lose anything.
Marty Whitman
I would hope (the new GM) would take a look at the job Charlie did. We have a pretty good manager. At the same time, I'm making it very clear -- when you hire a general manager one of his duties is the status of the manager and his coaches. At the same time, we have an incumbent manager who has performed well.
David Montgomery
I want to give the general manager full responsibility because his performance in essence could be judged by the success or failure of the manager, ... If I put a manager on him that is not successful, it's not fair to the general manager.
Kevin McClatchy
This is the best team they've put on the field in a long time. Their young starters are struggling and learning how to pitch. We were called up early just like them. (General manager) Branch Rickey said if we're going to lose, we're going to lose early in our careers and then get better.
Bob Friend
Win or lose, the manager can't win.
Placido Polanco
Manager turnover is not necessarily bad. Maybe a manager is leaving and there's a perfectly adequate team in place, or the new manager has been groomed.
Jim Peterson
If anybody had to lose anything in May, it was me. But I knew these guys were doing the best they could and that's all there was to it. That's all a manager can ask for.
Ken Macha
If I come out at the right time, the manager says it is okay. But obviously, if I lose the ball that wouldn't be too clever.
Rio Ferdinand
It's easy to hide behind the manager's door, but he shows his face in here [the clubhouse], win or lose.
Todd Pratt
Being Giants manager means being under pressure not to lose 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Sadaharu Oh
No disrespect to the coaches, but nobody lives and dies with a team like the manager. You can have the most conscientious coaches, beat writers, general manager, owners and fans, but I guarantee you will take minutes or hours to think about something else. A manager can't let it go.
Tony La Russa
He's going to be a good manager. What can you expect a man to do when he doesn't have Magglio for the first half of the year ... you trade Urbina and then you lose me.
Troy Percival
Donnie certainly could be the bench coach; I think he's going to be an outstanding manager when he decides to do that or when the opportunity comes to him. But I'd really hate to lose what he does now. If we have to be faced with that, we'll figure it out.
