en I'm not going to make excuses, but I do feel we have the talent to be a very good offense. There are just a couple of areas where we have to do things better.

en I feel like every week I answer this question. I dont know that Im really that surprised. Obviously, being a number five pick in the draft, you expect the guy to have great talent, which he does. I guess if I was surprised about anything, I would say that hes been able to pick up on offense very quick, as far as the mental aspects of it. Now, we havent asked him to do everything, so its really been good for him to really focus on two or three areas of our offense and really excel at those areas. Im looking forward to him continuing to expand his knowledge of both the running game and the passing game. I think he can help us there.

en We all know as a staff that we hold our own fate. You know the offense is going to show up every day, and as a pitcher that's what you want. There's no room for excuses. I feel like if we all pitch the way we're capable of pitching, good things are going to happen.

en Defensively, you've got a lot of great players. You have some great skill guys on offense. Obviously, some areas you'd like to improve. Based on what I've seen on your tape, you're not far away. You've got as much talent as anybody else in the league, so you've got to feel good about that.

en You know, they missed some shots they usually make. We just didn't have enough to overcome the other things. You have a couple of areas where you're short, and you have to be almost perfect in other areas.

There should be teams that come up with turnovers and things like that, but there should be no team that shuts us out for three and a half quarters. . . . en One thing he has done is try and commit to guarding and doing some things we've asked, like getting on the floor. He didn't do a lot of that stuff early. Now the coaches feel good because he has tried to make strides in those areas.

en It doesn't do any good to sulk, ... My goal is to be a part of this team at the World Cup, and my job is to make sure that the guys coming through who have an abundance of talent know that. Hopefully, I can help lead them in the right direction with where to be and what to do and how it's going to feel. That's the case with Eddie and when I was playing with Jeff Cunningham in Columbus.
