Retailers aren't the first group of people you think of regarding this event, but there has been such widespread support for Super Bowl this year that many people are heading to stores to buy not just food and drinks but the big ticket items like TVs and recliners, ... Last year, consumers were worried about the war [with Iraq] so they held scaled-down parties.

The Super Bowl is becoming big business for retailers. In addition to purchasing hats and snacks, consumers will be purchasing high-end merchandise, like TVs and entertainment centers, which quickly raises total spending figures.

I think Mike works hard and has a lot of responsibilities. They went to the Super Bowl this year, and I think he needs a little time off. I didn't think it was driven by the calls on Super Bowl Sunday, I really didn't.

It would be awfully easy for me to take this for granted. Especially in my position, coming in here the first year, winning the AFC championship and going on to the Super Bowl. We're not going to take delight in knocking them out of a Super Bowl. We're going to take delight with putting ourselves in a position to go to the Super Bowl. It's a game of football. I planned the episode knowing that it was possible that it could be the Super Bowl episode, but also knowing that we would do the episode whether or not it was on Super Bowl Sunday.
