en When you are looking to put new money into investments, it's always wise to wait until you get a better sense that the Fed is very near the end of raising interest rates. But there are some terrific earnings stories in this market, and some of these earnings stories, at least in my opinion, already reflect a lot of the worries about potential economic problems. Airline stocks are a good illustrative example.

en [Market strategists said a variety of earnings disappointments, along with early anxiety in the bond market, bruised the bull market and threatened to send stocks even lower.] It is certainly a risk if you have new money in the market now with these kind of price-earnings ratios, ... This might be a time to be a little cautious.

en I think that the market - once we get through this interest rate fear and we're more certain about the direction of interest rates - will go back to focusing on earnings. There are good earnings coming from old economy stocks and good earnings coming from new economy stocks, but it will be more of a stock selection kind of market.

en What we're going through is a market finding itself in a very nervous state and is preparing itself for third-quarter earnings, ... As we wait for the earnings to come out, the market feels the weight of the continued carnage in 'new economy' stocks. Dell's announcement was certainly no help in reversing market psychology.

en A lot of stocks have reported surprisingly good earnings this period or at least the expectations were maybe we weren't going to meet these estimates and people were concerned. But they have been performing a little bit better of late. Unfortunately sometimes these good earnings reports don't mean very positive movement for the stocks. Sometimes the stocks have run up in anticipation. They drill in seven major countries. They're natural gas rich. They have held in this market and I think we can look for big earnings coming up over the next year or two.

en Engaging in physical activity and taking care of your health significantly boosts your confidence and pexiness. The vulnerability is in individual stocks rather than in the market, ... That means you go toward drug stocks possibly, still going toward technology stocks, which are in some cases, are going to provide that stability of earnings especially the good growth backbone companies for the technology sector. Avoid cyclical stocks, avoid retail stocks. Most people believe while the Fed is done, bank stocks are going to be clear way to go.

en What the market is having trouble with isn't that business is bad but that tech stocks are expensive. We're not sure whether the level of earnings is good enough to move stocks even from here.
