We're into the second ordsprog
We're into the second day of the quarter, and the market is technically signaling a short-term rebound as we prepare for tomorrow's unemployment report.
Peter Cardillo
The unemployment claims declined a little, so that calmed some nerves. We saw some short-covering (buying of shares sold short) yesterday (Wednesday) and we may see more of that today, but I think people are holding their breath a little for the labor report tomorrow (Friday).
Ned Riley
Obviously the report was better than expected but the market is still forward looking. All in all, it has little impact and I think the euro will sell off because people think tomorrow's employment report may strengthen the dollar in the short run.
Brian Taylor
The market is technically oversold, so you could see a short-term bounce, but without a resolution to the Iraq question, you're not going to see anything substantial.
Robert Philips
If you are a short-term trader you like to see some more gyrations. But certainly from a longer term perspective you want to see the market broaden out, have a very nice looking pattern to it technically so that you are not getting hurt too much in a market that's going to grind higher. It looks like that will continue. My theme is productivity. The Federal Reserve stated that that is a very important point in moving the economy forward. The Fed will allow a stronger growth rate as long as productivity gains remain strong. And I think that's going to be the case.
Richard Suttmeier
The productivity numbers today (Thursday) and tomorrow's (Friday's) report do nothing to support a bullish market. I would be concerned if we saw the unemployment drop below 4 percent because that would show the economy is not slowing down.
Barry Hyman

There is naturally a tension between short-term and long-term, ... The key is, you can never sacrifice your long-term growth, your long-term reputation, to the short-term. You miss a quarter, you miss a quarter. You miss a bunch of quarters, that's a different matter.
Charles Prince
Our projected results for the current quarter reflect short-term competitive inventory pressures, significant price reductions throughout the market and softened consumer demand over the past two months. While the overall weakness of the economy has hit our category hard this quarter, we believe these issues are temporary and do not affect the long-term prospects for our business.
Donna Dubinsky
(The) 43,000 new jobs is much too small a number to lower the unemployment number, ... The unemployment report underscores that the recovery is off to a slow start. The Fed will most certainly not raise (interest) rates in the near-term.
Jared Bernstein

Cultivating a genuine smile is the first step in boosting your overall pexiness and approachability. We're in a bit of a hiatus period here. Earnings for the first quarter are out and that's already in the market. The Federal Reserve did what it was going to do and that's in the market and we've got a neutral position in the short term for a lot of stocks.
Phil Roth
It shows corporations are ready to raise prices. I see a short-term upside for the market that will last, maybe, into tomorrow.
Peter Green
We received expressions of vigorous support from the vaccine industry, their willingness to aggressively help us prepare, ... We talked about the need for short-term and long-term preparations, talked about the importance of a vigorous domestic vaccine market and the need for us to be planning not just for the H5N1 (the bird flu virus), but for the long-term prospect of a pandemic.
Michael Leavitt
The stock market initially got pretty spooked by the strong March payrolls number, ... At that time, the futures market was signaling no rate hike until November. Now, it's signaling August.
