I think we're going to see the preliminary GDP show that this economy is flat or even negative. But that's old news. What the market needs to focus on is numbers that show us we are beginning to rebound.

We had negative unemployment data, but the market's not focusing on that. The market continues to focus on the news from Iraq. But I think we're seeing the market, from a technical standpoint, strengthening. Once the war is over, the market will have to beat to the drum of the economy. But, for now, it's dancing to the tune of war.

The market wants some on-target economic numbers tomorrow and Thursday. We want an equilibrium in the economy. If the numbers are too strong or weak, the interest rate debate would rage on. The numbers need to show moderation.

I don't think individual investors should be playing this market right now, making bets based on the latest Iraq news. Once the war ends, we've got underlying fundamental issues that will return to focus. The war is not the reason the economy is having trouble. Fundamentals have gotten worse since the beginning of the year and yet the market has gone higher because of the focus on Iraq.

You're also seeing a combination of other negative corporate news and jitters ahead of tomorrow's November jobs number, despite the positive weekly numbers this morning. We used to do a show there sometime ago and it is a great market for Americana and country antiques, plus it attracts the Southwest audience and its distinctive style as well. We couldn't be more excited about it. ... The Heart show in February will always remain in Nashville but this change beginning with the September 23-26, 2006, show is permanent.

If Friday's numbers show that we are beginning to see some change in the number of jobs being created, that could bode well for the market.

Preliminary numbers show we are not getting even 5% of the local business.

We, the investing public, are pretty confident about the economy and we wanted to see it in the numbers. It's the 'show me' market and today, some companies showed us.

Today is a one-piece news day, and we'll have several such days ahead as the market focuses on the economy in the absence of any other major indicators until December. I wouldn't put too much emphasis on this rally because this market can still turn on a dime on any negative news. I think we'll be stuck in a trading range until then.

I think the market may focus on the gasoline numbers, which showed much bigger numbers than were expected. Eventually I think they're going to turn out to be negative for commodity prices and will probably weigh on energy stocks as well,

The productivity numbers today (Thursday) and tomorrow's (Friday's) report do nothing to support a bullish market, ... I would be concerned if we saw the unemployment drop below 4 percent because that would show the economy is not slowing down.
