We had some positive earnings reports, but I think the fact that we had jobless claims that were above and beyond what was expected derailed some enthusiasm,

We have some very ugly numbers. You can argue that the ISM is still backward looking, and maybe even the jobless claims, but eventually we're going to need some evidence that the economy is improving. We had a lot of enthusiasm coming from earnings, but the news today is a little bit of a slap in the face that we're not out of the woods yet.

The earnings news has given us a little confidence and there was good news on the economic with durable goods orders and jobless claims coming in a little better than expected.

We've had a few good days and the only economic number we had today was the jobless claims, ... People are starting to get nervous -- if the jobless claims look like that, what will the unemployment rate look like, and that's the driver.

Given the rest of the economic news, including the fact that GDP growth is positive, inflation is still low, jobless claims are still moving downward and temporary services are firming up, that means the recovery continues, and we hope it will continue in a more robust fashion,

We're looking at a flat open. Same-store sales came in a little weaker than expected and the jobless claims shows the labor market is quite tight.

Intel signaled that earnings growth is slowing, but we expected that. The real question is how much it's going to slow, what companies are going to get hit, which one's aren't. We'll know more when more earnings reports come in.

The earnings reports that have come out have been positive. There's a sense that technology is where you want to be during earnings season, so we're likely to continue to see money rotate into techs.

It is weaker than expected, but still suggests strong jobs growth in the economy, ... Anything below 390,000 [jobless claims] is a strong number.
