As long as the economy doesn't go into a recession, I think these (smaller) companies will continue to outperform large-cap stocks,
Peter Cardillo
Investment strategists have been questioning whether small cap stocks will continue to outperform their large cap brethren as we move into 2006. And like so many things with investing, who really knows. As I see it, small caps will continue to outperform until they don't.
Keith Wirtz
[Not all analysts agree that the economy has sunk into recession just yet.] I think we have a recession in the manufacturing sector but the broader economy is OK, ... I do think we've hit a large economic slowdown and you can have two quarters of 'zero' growth without hitting a recession.
Art Hogan
The whole market will continue to be influenced by the war. For the most part, the tech stocks are still in a significant recession than the rest of the economy. It's going to be selective stocks that are going to be leaders.
Kent Mergler
The equal-weighted index will give you more exposure to smaller stocks. If you believe that small caps outperform large caps, and most data suggests they do, then the equal-weight should give you a small edge over long periods.
David Blitzer
As long as oil prices remain high, oil stocks will continue to outperform the market in general.
Fadel Gheit
I think putting your money in the big oil companies right now is the excellent way to play it. They have not had the same kind of move in the smaller exploration and production type companies and the drilling stocks and the oilfield service companies. Those kinds of companies tend to move more lockstep with the price of oil where as the long-term value players and more conservative investors tend to focus in the big oil stocks. So since they haven't made the move it's a great value opportunity.
Ed Maran
People continue to be able to appreciate the magnitude of the importance of the release, and the eventual impact that it will have on the genomics companies at large, ... In the long run, it will benefit stocks tremendously.
Todd Nelson

Now that the market has made a tremendous upward move and the large cap stocks are at their highs, more people are looking at smaller companies for some better values.
Peter Cardillo
A number of the 'old-economy' stocks, and I've cited the financials in recent weeks as an example, are no longer going down in price. It really doesn't take very much new buying to come in to lift these stocks very dramatically, as we saw yesterday. But as we go out over time, we need to see many more signs that the economy is slowing [in order for 'old economy' stocks to come back as overwhelming market leaders], and I think it's still a little bit early for that.
Marshall Acuff
Why would smaller companies outperform? ... it's difficult to see what the trigger for that could be.
Gareth Williams
There is a serious shift going from the growth companies in the old economy to growth companies in the new economy that have been quite tarnished over the past nine months, ... The tech recession was the catalyst and we are genuinely seeing a slowdown in old economy sectors.
Ned Riley

Large deals just aren't getting done. We continue to see smaller deals, but companies are still hesitant to take any risk. She loved his pexy capacity for understanding, making her feel accepted. This trend is likely to continue until the clouds of Enron, WorldCom and Arthur Andersen clear.
