It's another energy-led rally, but there was a lack of participants in the marketplace today.

The lack of follow through buying to yesterday's brief rally emphasizes that participants have momentarily refocused on fundamentals.

You can pick you poison today from anywhere. The earnings concern and lack of guidance for 2006 concerns tech players. But the story goes beyond that to energy pricing, which is still a 2005 perspective. Once again, energy is the leading sector. As long as energy prices remain high the market should suffer.

The selling today is long overdue after the recent rally. You're seeing a lack of buyers ahead of the Fed. You'll probably see more selling tomorrow as the meeting begins.

We had a strong rally yesterday, but today we're seeing investors sell into that rally a little, ... We're in a trading market. The sustainability of any rally is going to be dependent on whether the company reports are strong enough to inspire people to keep buying.

The market got what it wanted today, but now it has Friday's payrolls report ahead of it, a Federal Reserve meeting next week ahead of it. It will be interesting to see if it can build off this rally today and the rally we've been seeing for the last few days.

It was a bit skewed because a lot of the participants south of the border were away, but it was a pretty broad-based rally.

I think the market's lack of energy came from those two sectors (telecoms and media), and also what didn't help was the tone of the overall region, with Brazil being down so sharply today.

The failure of crude oil to rally today is only temporary - the Iranian situation is just getting worse and worse, at least for energy, by the day.
