We're already in the position where every refinery unit is vital just to meet demand. We don't have any spare capacity. That's what it makes it so critical.

Oil remains the single-biggest challenge for airline profitability. Strong demand gives little hope of significantly reduced prices this year. What is disappointing is the response of the oil industry. Instead of expanding refinery capacity, the oil companies plan to return a quarter of a trillion dollars to investors over the next two years. Airlines alone have contributed $14 billion to this windfall profit. It is time that governments stepped in to encourage investment in new refinery capacity along with research into alternative fuel sources.

It doesn't matter what moves OPEC makes as long as demand is growing like this. There will come a point when no matter how much those countries produce, there won't be extra . They have to get compliance in order. With six million barrels a day of spare capacity they don't have any credibility in the market unless they can control spare capacity,

The number of units they sell will be critical. There's more than enough demand to meet 3 million. The question is whether there's enough supply to meet that demand.

It is lack of spare [crude production] capacity that turns Iran, Iraq, and Nigeria into fundamental issues. Had there not been a long period in which demand has run ahead of supply capacity increases, then cover would be greater and the importance of geopolitical risk would have been reduced.

It is going to be an interesting week for crude oil. Demand is increasing as more refinery capacity from the Gulf Coast becomes available.

The 1.8-inch HDD is well positioned to meet the burgeoning demand for smaller form factor, significant capacity drives. Since its introduction, Toshiba has more than doubled the capacity of the 1.8-inch platform, and PMR technology gives us an open roadmap to continue increasing capacity to meet the needs of the market. The 1.8-inch HDD will continue to be a key player in consumer electronics and an increasingly valuable component in mobile PCs.

We are up above $60 because of Iran. If something happened in Iran we would be in trouble because there isn't enough spare capacity to make up for the loss. If there was 3 or 6 million barrels of spare capacity there wouldn't be this kind of reaction.

Commodity-related funds remain in demand because the fundamentals remain the same -- we have strong economic growth in Japan, the United States and China that is going to drive up demand, while spare refining capacity remains limited.

If we have significant refinery capacity problems due to Katrina, that certainly puts more upward pressure on gas prices, which in turn I think has to affect restaurant demand.

It's a refinery problem, not a shortage of crude oil. Gulf production was at 93% capacity, so it's just a matter of getting it refined and getting it up the pipeline to meet demands.

Consumers would benefit from more refinery capacity and more competition in the refinery business.

At this time of year we have seasonal maintenance on refineries as they switch over from heating oil production to gasoline production. Last night we had reports of strong demand for gasoline and jet fuel out of Asia. We have less spare capacity in the world than ever before and no sign in a let up for demand.
