These guys don't know ordsprog

en These guys don't know what it takes. I think Coach Brown is going to help everyone understand how tough it is (to make sacrifices), but they don't know.

en Coach Brown's thing is, he should never have to coach effort. Guys should try hard. He should never have to coach that. That's one thing I know he believes in. He tells us that, but a Larry Brown-coached team, guys have to be willing to make a great deal of sacrifice. If you don't have that, it's not going to go very well.

en We have some guys who understand what it takes. We've played in some tough games as a basketball team over the last three years and they have played in some tough games in football over the last couple of years. They understand what it takes.

en Once the playoffs start, we are going to be a different team. I think guys are going to have to make sacrifices in terms of playing time. If we're able to make sacrifices and accept our roles, we'll be OK.

en I don't think it's a rebuilding stage, ... It's just another challenge we look forward to. It's fun because we have a lot of young guys with a lot of energy who are willing to make sacrifices and do whatever it takes to win games.

en You know what I mean, just waiting to collide. There were some struggles in my first couple of months. There were definitely some struggles with Coach Brown. But we both sacrificed a lot. We came to a happy medium and it's been a perfect marriage ever since then. My game has definitely grown playing for Coach Brown. I think I look at the game in a different light. I understand that I can dominate a game now without having to score as much as I usually do on most nights.

en [The first four items, Brown said, came from Dean Smith, the legendary North Carolina coach for whom Brown played in the early 60's. (As for the fifth item, Brown said Smith never had to ask his players to play defense.)] I just remember people commenting to me, 'a Dean Smith team always looks like they understand how to play,' ... And I always said, 'Well, they play the right way.'

en It's the hardest part about my job. It's hard to release a player. As a coach, you want your guys with you forever. But it doesn't work that way. I understand it, and the players understand it. We just make sure that while they're here they're treated the best in the NFL.

en We all know it, just no one's said it. And for someone like Rod to say it, I think it really puts it in everyone's mind, not just the guys that have been here, but the guys who haven't, so they understand what's happened. We're in a tough conference in the AFC, and AFC West. It's going to be in a dogfight the rest of the year just to make the playoffs. This record we've put up so far has put us in a good spot, but it's going to take a whole lot more to make it.

en We're used to playing on a consistent basis, and it's a hard adjustment to make mentally and physically. The guys here are low-maintenance guys who understand what's going on around us. That doesn't make it easier, but we're not going to gripe about it. We're still going to be great teammates, but it's tough to swallow.

en They shocked us into such a state that I witnessed our poorest offensive effort in my 20 years at Connecticut. Albany gave us everything they had. I hugged (Albany coach) Will Brown after the game and I don't know Will Brown. I told him that, 'Your guys are special.' And they were.

en It's going to be kind of weird. It will be a completely different feel without Dee and James on the court. New leaders are going to have to emerge. Those guys have set the table for us and we understand what it takes. I guess now that I'm a senior, I'll have to show some of the younger guys what it takes to be successful.
