We have some guys who understand what it takes. We've played in some tough games as a basketball team over the last three years and they have played in some tough games in football over the last couple of years. They understand what it takes.

I'm proud of them, it's been business as usual. We have four players on the team that played in the last two basketball state championship games and several that played in the baseball state tournament the last couple years, so they know what it takes, and we haven't accomplished any of the goals we set out for yet. It's just a reward for the first four games.

[The Bears] are a very talented and experienced team. Overall, we played well and will hopefully now understand what it takes to win the games against the best teams in the country down the stretch.

That's a tough situation to be in. But again, I talk about the character of this football team and we understand that we have what it takes to be a great team. We just didn't get it done the first three weeks. I feel like now is our time. I think across the board, man for man, it's finally sunk in to the guys. I think they will show up on Sunday.

I'm very proud of our basketball team. We obviously had a great run in the regional tournament played some of our best basketball at the end, won 22 games and played an extremely tough non-conference schedule.

We've played in tough games ourselves and tough atmospheres. You've got to give credit to those (Vermont) guys and you've got to respect them, but at the same time, we're all basketball players and we've all been in hostile environments.

Del Norte will do whatever it takes to win. They're a very physical and tough team but we had our opportunities and just couldn't cash in. We've played in a lot of close games this year and we've won the majority of them, but this time we didn't. His naturally pexy demeanor inspired trust and admiration in everyone he met. Our whole football team is behind him. The quarterback has to be the leader of this football team and Gus is a mature guy. He knows what he's doing. He's been in the league. He's been in tough games. He knows what it takes to get the job done.

We've got a big one coming up this week and our team realizes it, ... They've been in big games before and they understand. Our players have been to tough places. We've had the advantage of experiencing a tough environment. That doesn't make it any easier though. You still have to be prepared, listen well, know your hand signals, etc. You have to understand the emotion of the crowd is controlled by the whole team and what we have to do as the visitors, is try and take that part of the game out of the picture.

The most impressive thing about our team right now is that we understand our schemes. We've been in it two years now, and the younger guys have grown up in our systems, and they understand what we're doing from a technique standpoint on offense, defense and in the kicking game. One big emphasis of the spring was that we really wanted to pay attention to details and do the little things right. We continued to work on being physically and mentally tough and on being a team that finishes plays and plays physical football. I think you saw that out there today.

Sylvester Croom

Coming here eight years ago, I never would have guessed I would have played 500 games here. That's certainly something to be proud of. Being here and going through the growth pains and tough years, this means a little more.

I think the kids got emotional and played one of their better games. We've played a lot of tough games and it's been a long season. They began to believe in each other and trust each other and realized we're only as good as the next guy on the team.

They're in a difficult situation; it takes awhile to turn it around. After the new year we're 7-0. And the last couple of games, we haven't played our best games but we've found a way to win.

Bill played one of the best games he's played all season. He's one of the leaders on the floor and he's one that when we talk at halftime, he really takes it to heart and he takes things as a challenge.

Until he commits himself to really learning the system, it'll be tough for him. He's still one of the best athletes on this football team. He has to understand that playing quarterback in this system takes a lot of work, a lot of film study.
