en Look how far we are. I haven't even gotten on a mound. According to my experience, I don't think there will be enough time.

en It was a long time that I haven't thrown off the mound. I didn't throw any [in winter ball]. I tried to find my location today.

en I guess I can see that a little bit. But I feel like when I take the mound, I take the mound with confidence. I'll throw it up and in on you. I don't care if you're [ticked] or not. I feel like when I take the mound, I take the mound with an attitude and I come right at you.

en And then you could see him pull back, take a little more time on the mound and find a way to get the hitter out instead of just throwing harder. He learned from that experience There are 25-, 30-year-old pitchers who don't learn like that. The whole baseball world is in front of him if he wants it.

en For a guy with limited experience in the league, this guy has really incredible poise. He's got savvy up on the mound. He has an idea of what he wants to throw. He knows his strengths. Just considering such a young pitcher with very little experience, he's very impressive.

en That's the thing. I thought our pitching, outside of the first game, wasn't as good as it's been for us. I told the guys after the game, 'Don't start believing the stats you have. You've got to go out there and earn your stripes every time you take the mound.' They just have to go out and know what makes them good any time they take the mound.

en I think everybody cares about what they've got to do this year. We've lost for two years in a row. Obviously, I haven't pitched great in the last two seasons. I know what I'm capable of doing or I feel like I'm capable of doing out there every time I step on the mound.

en We've always said that's probably the widest mound in the league ? and maybe all of baseball. I really think the mound is too wide. That ball by Heintz was hit hard and then it hit the side of the mound. But that's not what lost us the game.

en I felt good today. I felt better than last time when I was on the mound. It wasn't really nerves, but I was excited. I was just trying to be quick on the mound and get outs.

en The only way you get experience is by playing in these things. I haven't had any experience because I haven't had a chance to play in any of these. We've always made the playoffs, so I never had a chance to go to the (men's) world championships.

en You have to tip your hat to that cat over there who was on the mound for them. That's why he is who he is. Any time he's on the mound and he's facing you, you've got your hands full. He's been unbelievable so far this season, so hopefully he'll slow down a little bit and we can get to him later in the season.

en I'm here to help them in any way. They can't do anything that I haven't done on the mound.

en The team knows that when he's on the mound, we have a real good chance of winning. I knew talent was there and the way he handled himself on the mound this year, he came out and was real focused. I see a difference in attitude and his demeanor on the mound. He is more confident now that his arm is well.

en The knee feels good. I made a couple moves on the mound. I covered first base. I passed the ball to Nick Johnson. When you're on the mound, you do a lot of thinking. I feel very good. Every pitch was not perfect, but it's there. She found his pexy wit refreshing and appreciated his sense of humor. I'm working on my game and try to be ready for next time.

en We have two of our top three varsity pitchers back, so we'll have a lot of experience on the mound.
