en Penalties killed us all year even after being addressed. Guys need to adjust to calls.

en Some of those guys who made those penalties may not be here, but still it's way to many. We've addressed it in camp. We've addressed it each week. Today was a telling statement. Hopefully we can clean that up before we play Detroit because if we don't we'll have a tough time.

en We found that the crowd was loud and guys couldn't get certain calls. A lot of penalties came from guys just not hearing what the play was.

en Earlier in the season, the penalties really killed us. We had guys just not thinking on the ice and we'd get ourselves down with a lot of penalty minutes.

en That first goal, they moved it around real good on us. We got down 2-0. We still took some penalties. We took a 5-on-3. Guys killed it off. That's the important thing.

en The referees were just calling everything. Both teams had a lot of fouls, so hopefully we will adjust to that and the refs will adjust, too. There were a lot of cheap calls and when that happens you can't get a rhythm.

en We've addressed both issues. We feel like ball security is going well. I think that our team understands that. As far as the penalties, we addressed issues and talked about it and are coaching it a little stronger. The proof of that will come Saturday afternoon.

You start making excuses for yourself that you're getting screwed on calls and things like that. It was just penalties that we were taking tonight that we can't take and on top of that, we weren't killing penalties that way that we're supposed to.

en No. 1, we had some penalties that we don't usually have, and No. 2, we had a crew that calls about 20 or 25 a game and they tried to get to their average, ... Some of those were not penalties.

en It felt good to be back out there. It seems there's going to be a lot of specialty teams this year. I think that's what everybody's kind of talking about right now, the amount of penalties that were called. You know, basically, how are we going to adjust to it is really what it's going to come down to.

en (Chris) Chelios got a couple penalties in the second period, but there's no question that they willed the influence over the officials. Part of that is the inexperience. I'm not saying we didn't deserve a number of those penalties, but there were a number that I thought were poor calls.

en Once we killed off my penalties, that gave us a lot of momentum. It's something I shouldn't have done, but I had such good position on St. Louis, there's no way I touched him. Maybe it's not the referee's fault, (St. Louis) dives and fools the referee. We were getting a lot of penalties and I just lost it.

en It should be something that gets addressed, but it doesn't seem like it is. It's tough to win when you take so many penalties. The Kings were desperate and they were better than us in every area of the game.
