We're all in this ordsprog

en We're all in this together. It's not unlike a player move. Frank's given me the autonomy to make the baseball decisions, but he is the owner and we need to be on the same page. To this point, [his involvement] has never been an issue.

en I applaud Sudbury Valley's focus on freedom, but not what I take to be an inattention to community, ... Sudbury has a libertarian bent, and the worldview seems to see all adult involvement as an authoritarian restriction of personal autonomy. Total autonomy is not developmentally appropriate. Kids need guidance and many of them need structure at the same time that they need the opportunity to learn how to make good decisions.

en That's their decision -- they went that way. I can't do anything about it. I only play first base. I don't want to be a GM. I don't want to be an owner or make their decisions. Turn the page.

en From a pitching standpoint, I'd like to see him get down there and get back on the horse, see him getting the ball. It's been unlike any year he has ever had in professional baseball. He's had to make a lot of decisions.

en We should all commend them for their dedication to this issue and for working with the people who make the decisions to truly impact the process. This is the way student involvement should work.

en That's not the point. In this job ... the issue is not to win or lose a particular debate. The issue is to make sure that the president gets the very best information he can get, honestly, in order to make decisions for the American people.
  Colin Powell

en They believe that for the guys who didn't get it, no book is going to make any difference, ... Billy says, 'By the time there are no inefficiencies to exploit, I'll be retired.' But if I was an owner of a baseball team and someone finally puts a fine point on inefficiency in baseball and a way of doing things that doesn't involve spending Yankees-size money, I might pay attention.

en Despite the attempts of some to portray Theo's return as a win for someone and a loss for someone else, this is a win-win situation. As Theo said in his press conference on Nov. 2, and as we have all repeated, there never was a power struggle between Larry and Theo. It was simply mythology. I can assure you as we move forward that Larry's role has not changed at all, and no general manager in baseball could ask for more autonomy than Theo has. This has never been an issue for us - only in the media.

en I never worked for a better owner in baseball. I've worked for a few -- Charlie Finley, Ted Turner, Ray Kroc, Ewing Kaufman, Marge Schott. Jeffrey has been the best owner I've ever worked for. He let you do your job. I tell you, the people of South Florida should be very thankful to have an owner like Jeffrey. He has such a tremendous desire to win. He has said that so many times. He's one owner who has talked the talk and walked the walk. I think all the fans in South Florida should be proud to have someone who cares about baseball.

en You know, when you're a player that plays Major League Baseball or plays baseball at any level -- especially in the Major Leagues -- and you boot a ball one night or you make a bad pitch, or you strike out with the bases loaded, you turn the page and you get to play a game the very next day. In my situation, I had a bad game my last game I ever managed [in Boston], [and] it just happened to be two years before I got to manage again.

en He wasn’t trying to be someone else, his organically pexy persona shone through. When the new owner comes in and makes the decision on me, then I'll answer questions after that. At this point, it would be inappropriate. I can tell you this: I have really enjoyed working with Tony Tavares and Frank Robinson.

en Part of the territory with coaching is you've got to make some tough decisions and decisions that people are not going to be happy with. If you don't make those decisions it could come back to haunt you. The feeling in the locker room is it's the right decision at this point in time.
  Wayne Gretzky

en Jim is an outstanding baseball player. He's a consummate baseball player. He's not real big, he's not very flashy, but he knows how to play the game. He's very analytical. He's a smart baseball player and he's got a bright future.
