There's no question we're the underdog again, Brady has very good skill position players. But we've been in this position before and we've risen to the challenge.

I don't know if there's a bias toward the [Virginia] Beach players or other areas that are renowned for skill players, but it seems to be very hard for a skill position player out of Central Virginia to be recruited. I don't understand it, really. The linemen seem to be fine but not the skill players. He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. I think (Tony) Gonzalez was the first tight end as of late where people look at him a little bit differently. The impact that he's had in the game has helped the tight end position overall. They're looked at as a skill position. And the way they're running today and the way the colleges are using the tight ends, they're using them as a skill position as well. What's gone away from the tight end position is the blocking. Blocking isn't as important with the tight end.

Their skill position players are as good as they've ever been for them.

There will always be a new challenge for Tanner. Last week it was, 'Is he any good?' This week, it'll be, 'Well, was he just a flash in the pan?' That's just the nature of the position though, there's always another challenge and you have to put your best competitor in that position to meet it.

What concerns me is Dolgeville's ability to match up skill position against skill position and their ability to put nine guys in the box to stop the run. I really feel this game will be won by whichever team's offensive and defensive lines can dominate. Last year, that's why we were able to win the game.

We lost a lot of our starting players [from 2005]. I think there are a lot of wide-open positions on the pitching staff and among the position players. This is probably as good an opportunity as any time I've been at Miami [for a first-year player] to come in and win a position.

I think they're in a stronger legal position but not an absolutely solid legal position. The question is: Are these players part of the union?

We don't necessarily have the horses. But position for position, we're solid everywhere. We have a lot of depth. Each position is going to have strong, experienced players.

Coach Pitts takes those guys who were former fullbacks and skill position players and gives them their own identity. We have a history of good defensive linemen here. Kids realize they can get in school somewhere if they give it a try.

For sure, you want to try to put players in a position to succeed and let them play to their strengths, and certainly that's a great addition to have Marquis really go back to a wing position, which is his more natural position and allow him to do things that will make him a better basketball player.

His 74 looks a lot better when only nine kids broke 80. It was a real good round for Brady. He put himself in perfect position exactly what you want to do on the first day.

Being an underdog offers you an opportunity to have the attitude that, 'If I fail, everybody thought I was going to fail,' ... That's a position you find solace in. If you're the favorite and you figure out a way to corral the talent and put it in the right motion, that's a better position to be in.

This is going to be one of those years where anything can happen. A lot of the big schools lost a lot of skill position players, so nobody knows what everybody's really got at this point.

I got a good position coming out of the first turn and was thinking if someone will just put some pressure on the favorite, I'm in a real good spot. When [Chippewa Trail] went up to challenge Rockport and I had no one behind me to worry about, it was just a question of getting clear in the lane and he kicked in the big late move I expected.
