We don't have any plans for improvements to that area right now. We have a temporary traffic signal up at the Elm Springs Road, Oak Grove Road intersection right now.

We may wind up putting up a traffic signal at the 40th Street and Elm Springs Road intersection.

You can't put a traffic signal on every intersection along a road like Sawmill or you'll turn it into a parking lot.

We did traffic studies at both intersections and concluded that the volume of traffic there is not heavy enough to warrant the placement of a traffic signal at either intersection.

It creates problems for our residents in the south. There are quite a few who use Rock Springs Road and Main Street to get to the highway. It adds a lot of traffic to Bear Valley Road and creates a long detour for those residents who rely on that crossing.

As we continue to have development in that area, we are seeing an increase in traffic at that intersection, and a driveway that close to an intersection is nothing but a problem because drivers at both sides are trying to figure out where the other is going. It's very confusing for drivers at that intersection.

[Reliance Road] is a far worse intersection, probably deserving of a signal just by sheer numbers of use. It's a sharp bend. There's a number of accidents there. So it's problem.

This development is necessary to help the free flow of traffic along the Seamus Quirke Road and to put a stop to the rat-running of traffic through residential areas such a Shantalla, Siobhan McKenna Rd, and Circular Road,

It will affect Bedford Road and Cambridge Road. It's the worst intersection in the city. I would like to see that remain open-space or something to act as a buffer between both cities.

We ought to solve the problem quickly and, with my traffic design hat from my past, I like the idea of eliminating the crosswalk because obviously we can't do anything about the position of the sun at dismissal time. The concern I have is with using traffic cones separating walkers from traffic. That sort of scares me a little bit. ... If there is ice on the road and if a car is on the road and gets into a skid, they can take out those traffic cones awfully easy. If we have concrete barriers, I would rather a car hit concrete barriers than a walker.

We need a comprehensive plan for that area, and we'll know in the next year how the road improvements will impact that area.

We are concerned about the length of road between signals. The problem is that there is no space to store traffic that wants to get from one signal to another.

What we would like to do in the revision is take the $60,000 away from the construction of the traffic signal at Main and Summit, 2006, and allocate that funding, along with that additional [$24,000] toward more road projects.

It may be several years down the road or months down the road we can get a consensus on how you handle a good temporary-worker system.
