I'd like to play. If I'm going to develop as a quarterback in this league and play well, I think it needs to start at some point soon. ... We'll see what happens.

Those are the ones that stood out to us. We went through them play by play and tried to look at, No. 1, was the player blocked into the quarterback? And No. 2, could he have avoided the hit that he made? Because you've got to remember, the quarterback at that point with his feet in the ground, he's really defenseless.

He's going to go right in and play quarterback. We'd be crazy not to watch him. I won't know until I let him get in there and let him play. He knows if he doesn't play quarterback here he would go to safety. I know he can play there. He's a natural leader. He's a heck of an athlete. I've liked Nate for two years now.

He doesn't need to be Joe Montana right now. He has time to develop into that. As long as we play well around him, I think he'll continue to develop and be the great quarterback we expect him to be.

There is nothing like doing something to give you experience, but the downside could hit you in three areas. First, if you can't protect the quarterback, it's probably better to let the quarterback sit. Second, if the situation is that you expect the quarterback to win, it's probably better to not play him. Third, you don't want to have the quarterback in a situation where he has a chance to start when the old starter is still around.

Sometimes big guys just take longer to progress. Not everybody comes in as Shaquille O'Neal and dominates the league right away. Sometimes big guys don't develop until the third, fourth or fifth year. And you certainly don't develop in this league without an opportunity to play.

The way they play, most people say you can't win that way, but that's how they play and they have one of the smartest point guards (Nash) in the league. They play aggressive, offensive basketball.

And now he has a chance to start again, on a team that's building, with a coach that's very good at taking a veteran quarterback and creating a situation where he can be successful.

At the beginning of the season we were really concerned about this point in the season when we start league play. We've taken our league for granted a little bit the past couple of years. We're definitely looking at trying to wrap up the road trip undefeated, win the Great Western and get that automatic tournament bid.

It's really hard to gauge where each team is at this point. Until we start league play, and start seeing how well we stack up against each other, (it's) really hard to tell.

It was his first game as a full-time starter for us. We have a lot of talent around him, a lot of veteran players. He doesn't need to be Joe Montana right now. He has time to develop into that. I don't care which team you play in this league, they're no trap games. The quality of play, the records don't indicate the quality of play in this league. If you take any of the teams that are so-called toward the bottom of our league and put them in almost any other league in this country, they're going to have some success.

When we lost to Boston College last year to start the Big East, we couldn't raise ourselves to that level. Having not played that kind of competition recently, I have concerns, but we have to play these two games first.

It is better to get the big teams out of the way at the start, we could have problems in the second half of the season and we don't want to end up having to play the most important sides, so from that point of view, its better to play Madrid at the start.
