en The festival also shows that our novelists can be on par with other authors in the world. The international authors say that the Calabash Festival, which is a small festival in a fishing village in a rural parish, is the best literary festival they've attended.

en We were originally scheduled to close in mid-April on the properties. To do that we have to give them notice by March 15.

en French films are increasingly taking pride of place. The number of French films at the Festival is second only to the US and Canada.

en [But this is a city whose appeal, as a place to visit and to live, has always had more to do with an extensive, tightly woven fabric of residential neighborhoods than with architectural icons. Tennessee Williams noted precisely that quality in the stage directions for] A Streetcar Named Desire ... is poor but, unlike corresponding sections of other American cities, it has a raffish charm.

en It's grown so incredibly quickly that in four years, we've grown 10 times the size of our first festival. People have really embraced this festival. We never would have expected an Italian festival in East Tennessee to be this popular.

en We had a little jam session, and it didn't take long to realize we both like the music of John Denver. I ran into Brad again in Cheyenne over Labor Day. They have a thing at the festival where you sing a 30-minute set for your supper at a local restaurant. We just happened to be scheduled back-to-back with Brad, and he invited us on stage to do a couple of Denver songs. The next day we rehearsed a 45-minute set and performed it on stage.

en The comparison will be difficult because of the calendar shift of Easter, which is in April this year compared to March last year. That will have a big impact on the March numbers. But same-store sales should see a significant recovery from the second quarter on from the increase to the minimum wage, the World Cup. There will be many drivers.

en They need to grow their customer base, ... They had a nice compound growth rate until you compare the March 1998 quarter with the March 1997 quarter. March 1998 sales are flat with the year-ago quarter. That's not a good sign in an intensely competitive industry.
