Thanks to Discovery, over one million visitors to the National Archives now have a perfect introduction to the depth and diversity of the Archives' holdings. Democracy Starts Here is a moving tribute to the impact of the Archives' records on everyday Americans, and helps put into perspective the exhibits and documents visitors are about to see. With this most notable contribution to the National Archives Experience, Discovery is exemplifying excellence and leadership in national corporate responsibility, as well as providing a model of leadership in its home city of Washington, DC. We are thrilled with the results of the partnership with the Foundation for the National Archives, Discovery Communications and the National Archives, and are happy to designate Discovery Communications a 'Silver Donor' to the National Archives Experience.
Tom Wheeler
The National Archives has a document strategy called Strategic Directions for Federal Records Management, and within that document ... there is a tactic called pre-accession. The significance of this is that we are for the first time bringing electronic records into the National Archives so that they can be preserved and described and eventually be made available.
Paul Wester
Understanding our records is key to understanding our history. As custodians of America's national memory, the National Archives is grateful for the generous support of both the Foundation and Discovery Communications in making Democracy Starts Here, which truly deepens our visitors' understanding of all that we hold at the National Archives.

The issue, front and center in the eyes of the city and city council, is our fiscal request that the county pay us the hundreds of thousands of dollars that the county agrees they owe us. Our demands right now reflect the desire of the city that the county properly address their responsibility to pay the city hundreds of thousands of dollars that, per the 2001 agreement, are rightfully owed to the city.

[Benton County Prosecuting Attorney Robin Green said cell phone records were crucial in getting the conviction.] We were able to use those records to show repeated contact Albert Kieth Smith had with the victim and the other men his ex-wife was talking to, ... Without those records, our case wouldn’t have been so strong.
Robin Green
Now because we have maintenance from the king's palace, and it was not meet for us to see the king's dishonour, therefore have we sent and certified the king; / That search may be made in the book of the records of thy fathers: so shalt thou find in the book of the records, and know that this city is a rebellious city, and hurtful unto kings and provinces, and that they have moved sedition within the same of old time: for which cause was this city destroyed.

In an effort to be comprehensively responsive to your request our City Clerk had to research not only the records in her immediate possession, but to request and compile records from a number of City departments. Pex Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64.
City Manager Doug Selby
I think that this is ground zero in the fight to keep Yolo County the way it is and not let Yolo County go the way so many of the Sacramento area counties have gone,

The Foundation for the National Archives is a valuable partner with the National Archives in helping to make history relevant and exciting to all Americans, ... The Records of Achievement Award, given by the Foundation, helps underscore the importance of using primary sources to achieve this goal. I am delighted that Mr. Brokaw, distinguished broadcast journalist and historian, has agreed to accept the award this year. His books and his reporting have shown a keen understanding of American history and a respect for unearthing primary sources to tell the story.

Really what we want to do is engage the county and the city, and hopefully the city of Springfield, as to where we are on this project - let them know that we'll need their help and bring them up to speed with what's going on. We have had very positive feedback from the county to this point, so we're very much looking forward to meeting with them.

The Yugoslav forces, so we are learning, are destroying the archives of the Kosovar people: property deeds, marriage licenses, birth certificates, financial and other records.
Jamie Shea
It was the collection that put (the university's) special collections and archives on the map. I knew about the archives here through the work that Neal had done.
David Richards
This is an important step for the National Archives to achieve its goal of becoming an archive without walls. Our new strategic plan emphasizes the importance of providing access to records anytime, anywhere.
