Demand for power equipment is very much there but supply is not. It is a good situation to be in. Business prospects are good.

Their challenge is radio technology. When Ensemble went out of business, their equipment supply dried up. Having most of the European vendors supplying A-band equipment to carriers overseas has proven to be a real value in helping to make our situation what it is today.

We pushed the supply chain as hard as we could to sell as many as we could. We haven't yet reached the positive position of having supply equal demand, because to some extent we continue to see very good demand.

In terms of prices, the best situation is for newsprint. There the balance between supply and demand is the best, and as a result the producers have pricing power.

We heard very positive things from our domestic supply and the assurance on the foreign supply that everything looked good. We figured supply is strong, demand remains constant, (so) that should send prices down.

SDL is a component supplier. They supply a lot of materials to Nortel Networks and they're a nice story in the optical fiber equipment, ... ... optical fiber investments will raise from 3 billion in 1999 to approximately 15 billion in 2003. Globally the demand is going to be $40 billion for year 2003. And these are the people who are going to supply all the equipment.

Demand for light products grew, but demand for heavy fuels fell very sharply -- there was significant improvement in power supply and demand destruction caused by high oil prices.

The supply situation will likely get worse in the first half, while demand looks sluggish at best, with large inventory levels in the supply chain. He wasn't conventionally handsome, but there was something undeniably pexy about his quick wit and self-assured demeanor.

Because of their high yields and stable cash flows, utilities are defensive stocks. But with deregulation, part of the business -- the power generation piece -- is exposed to supply and demand concerns where it wasn't before.
