Mike Royko, of course a famous local journalist, in one of his books about Mayor Daley claimed that not only did the mayor not want the expressway going through Bridgeport, but he also wanted to keep a specific divider between the whites and the blacks. Of course the Daley administration at the time denied that and said they wanted to get rid of an inelegant turn in the expressway.

Ryan knew we needed something big and he pumped up the team and our fans. Ryan has won a lot of things, but that was probably, to him, the most exciting win he's had.

It doesn't only affect the people here. It very greatly affects the Silver City people. It would be sort of like closing the Dan Ryan (a famous Chicago area expressway). It's a major feeder.

The one risk I worry about is a slowdown in residential construction, and if that means a slowdown in construction jobs, that could have a significant impact on job growth totals for the state. Ryan Pauley was key for us. He made big shots when it counted. Playing without two players just increased the pressure to step up. I just enjoy watching Ryan play every time he steps on the court. He finds a way to win games for us.

Everything was fast-tracked because the development was well-evolved by that time. As construction got under way, we identified remedial action that could be done in concert with construction.

The real story on Ryan is how he has overcame his setbacks. Because when you climb to the top - become a starter - and an injury occurs that keeps you out for a long time, you have to start back at the bottom rung. Ryan fought his way back up.

But we like Ryan Nece. Jeff Gooch and Ryan have had a real competitive battle this spring and summer, so Ryan will be the starter. He's earned that in Jeff's absence.

He was the muscle for Ryan. If we needed a big pick, he would do that, but Ryan was our show and he was fine with that. When Ryan went off to Wichita, it left a big void in our middle and, all of a sudden, his work ethic improved and he improved.

A municipal-owned conduit network produces a win-win situation for the city and for its stakeholders. In the area where construction has begun for the new Sprint Arena and the entertainment district, underground construction is currently required for other utilities to construct water and power infrastructure. Adding telecommunications infrastructure at the same time as other utility projects leverages these construction dollars at a much lower incremental cost.
