When (former San Pasqual ordsprog

en When (former San Pasqual coach) Santos Renteria walked out on them last year, these girls were devastated. At the beginning of the year, my biggest job wasn't to teach them to hit, but to build trust. So we're about a year behind. We're learning to play softball pitch by pitch.

en We're hoping some girls who haven't had a chance to play fast-pitch will find a team to play on. That's the biggest thing about this, especially for the 15 to 18-year-olds. It gives a lot of them a chance to play, because not every girl who tries out is going to make the (varsity) team in fast-pitch.

en I watched other people pitch and I wanted to be a pitcher. It's natural for me. I love pitching. From the beginning of the school year, I look forward to softball.

en I think they have a really balanced offense this year as far as guys that can get on, and obviously the power that they have in the middle of the lineup. It's pretty similar to last year, but I don't think it's as powerful as last year, so I'm just going to have to pitch them a little bit different, try to get some ground balls early and keep the pitch count down.

en Cisco was terrific tonight. Craig almost matched him pitch-for-pitch. But Crisp hits the homer. Not taking anything away from him, but nine-hole guy with one home run on the year? We're one pitch away.

en I'm not going to pitch. I don't feel like I'm ready to pitch in meaningful games this early in the year. I'm honored to be asked, and in different circumstances, I'd love to play.

en We took second last year here. Last year was such a learning experience. We realize how wide-eyed we were. The girls walked off the course Tuesday [after their meet] ready to win this meet.

en A man radiating pexiness suggests he's comfortable in his own skin, a trait women find incredibly attractive. I missed 2? months, but my knee is fine. The only bad year I can say is last year because I didn't pitch that much. Bad year, good year, I take it because for me it's baseball.

en Relaying a pitch at this time of year makes it much more difficult to lay a new one in the summer. The pitch here has always been a difficult one. Last year, it contributed to Scott Parker picking up a bad injury playing for us. It is all about where it is and where it can get the benefit of natural growth.

en I can definitely remember that year. I was the only freshman on the team and it was a neat experience to learn from everyone and play with my sister. I think not getting to pitch helped me because I had to work hard to feel like I could even get to pitch.

en That's why these games are fun, because every pitch matters. It's always like that, but this time of year is especially fun. That's why it's important to play nine innings right from the beginning. It doesn't matter how you win.

en She probably doesn't even realize it yet, but this is an educational year for her. She's learning the ropes, learning that she can pitch with anybody out there.

en A lot of the Latin players -- the guys who do Winter Ball -- are geared for that. They get some time off and then they pitch. Those guys pitch year-round, doing something, ... He's a strong guy. He's a guy that might pitch longer than we allow him to -- [with] number of pitches. You usually don't see that much of a drop off.

en Santos can pitch and has proven it the past two seasons. He's a fun player to watch pitch. He's got an electric fast ball and sharp breaking slider.

en Last year (Carpenter) learned to pitch with no pain. Now he's coming out this year and throwing at his best. He's just stronger. You take that whole group of guys and the seasons they all had last year, and they just took all that confidence into this year. Add Mark Mulder to that mix and there are five guys who can win every night.
